For a woman, great size

But in all seriousness I’ve only got 45-41mm watches in my collection but tried a 36mm DD recently in YG white dial, would certainly consider this one

Until just five or ten years ago, men wore 31-36mm and it looked great. 36mm was a large, luxurious size.

36mm is slightly small. It does take a while for my eyes to get used to it since I wear mostly 39-42mm. But I do like that it doesn’t get in the way of my cuffs.

On a serious note, wear what you are comfortable with.

I have a small wrist so I like to stay around 33-39mm. Personally I think bigger watches look ridiculous on me - as if I would wear a suit 4 sizes too big.

I'm sure there are people with smaller wrists than mine, that wouldn't wear watches smaller than 42mm. If they're comfortable and happy with that size, I say go for it, enjoy. I might personally not agree with their choice, but as long as they're happy, that's what matters.

Really a personal preference. When I first out in a 36mm after a while of not wearing I think it’s too small because I’m used to a bigger size. By mid day, I love it.

For a DJ, it’s supposed to be a smaller watch. It was never intended to be as large as a sports model.

36mm is, and always will be, Rolex’s iconic size for that model.

And yep, I’ve had a DJ2 and also a DJ41. Both looked great on my wrist, but I preferred wearing something the way it was originally intended.

Chill.

I suspect he’s just wanting assurance that men wear them and people don’t see them as too small, that’s it.

It's the Rolex classic size.
If you need "bigger is better", go for it...I'll stick with the classic size & look

I wore a 34mm Date for eighteen years an loved it. I hadn’t discovered this forum yet and consequently nobody told me it was too small. Replaced it with a DJII and then picked up a number of 44mm watches which also wear well and I enjoy. My latest watch is the Exp 36mm. I feel almost like I’ve come full circle. I never think about it when I wear it, it disappears on my wrist. I smile when I discover I’m wearing it. Don’t get hung up on the numbers, just buy the watches that appeal to you.

This is only one parameter to determining if a watch is a good fit for the individual.

Is it ok to date a person who is 5’8? One number cannot be used to make a judgment from a faceless group of strangers.

It really depends on the watch head wrist presence you want from your timepiece and that is about it. I think anybody can wear 36mm as they all did for decades, but most people now prefer the bigger head for the greater visual impact of the watch. Plus, the larger head adds a tactile weight to watch. I personally like 36mm on a dressier watch, as with my 6.5 wrist I like the greater visual bracelet prospective that size affords. On a 40mm, all I see is the watch head.

I have 6.5" wrist and 36 is way too small for me. It doesn't have watch presents and is too light. 40-42 is perfect size for me.

36 mm is indeed a perfect size for the wrist dimensions you mention. The popularity, IMO, is inconsequential. Best wishes

I have 2 36mm and 2 40mm models.

I wear the 124270 Explorer 1 about 95% of the time. The comfort level and flexibility of the watch is just fantastic. It does everything from sports to black tie with ease. One thing I don't see mentioned a lot that comes into play is weight. My 40mm Sub is dramatically heavier and moves around a lot on the wrist. The 36mm Exp-1 is very light weight and doesn't interfere with gloves, shirt cuffs or anything really.

Dial size plays a big role as well, and honestly it’s the metric that matters most to me. I have a 39mm Explorer, and it wears pretty close to GMT. Case size is of course a factor as well, but for watches that don’t have a fancy rotating bezel, 36mm is probably more than adequate for most wrists up to 7.5 inches.

My daily wearer for awhile has been my 18239 Day Date which is 36mm, and I somehow always go back to that one. The fact that it's in Tridor (yellow, rose, and white gold) makes it too quirky for some, but I somehow love having a "Rolex President" that isn't a whole lot of flashy yellow. Snapped these just now — crappy iPhone pics, but that's all I know how to do:

Depends on the individual, a small man or butch wife would suit a 36.
