The smell of fresh basil.
The smell of a Magnolia tree in bloom in the spring.

I love going to good bookstores, finding several interesting books, an overstuffed chair and having a large black iced tea with 4 Equals (usually there's a Starbucks in these places) by my side. I love the serenity of getting lost in a good book. I also love the fact that no one knows where I am or can make demands on me at that time. Can anyone else relate?

I can relate...turn the cell phone off and let me get lost in some turn of the century (18th or 19th cen.) plant books or the history of species! I once found a copy of Robert Schomburgk's descriptions of first finding the Victoria amazonica in an article published by John Lindley. The interconnectedness of this find was unbelievable for me. My favorite type of orchids to raise are Schomburgkias and I also grow these massive water lillies (some with a span of 9 feet, 3 metres). I never knew the two were connected and I so love growing both of them. Made for an awesome day (even now years later)!
I hope this doesn't come across like your English Professor - ugh!

I decided to sit out at the bar on the deck tonight when a couple of neighbors came over and we had a couple of drinks. Perfect weather, light breeze. Little things like tonight seem to be the most relaxing anymore.

Driving around at dusk with all the windows down and listening to music when the temperature outside is perfect (just did that one).
Early morning on a sunny day. The beach. Saturday lunches with my mom. Throwing the baseball around. Fly Fishing. Bet I could think of a few more too. Cool topic . |

It's a beautiful day here, a few more days to the Philly GTG and I heard the Talking Heads on route to work today. Life is good. I hope things are going well for all the citizens of TRFland.

Has anyone else noticed this? It seems that more and more members are posting their pictures in their avatars. It's so nice to see what others look like and gives this place a more personal feel.

Good one. I love coffee and will always love the feel of printed paper in my hands. As much as I get my news online and from the radio these days, I always look forward to hearing that *plop* of the paper on the front porch. The comics and my crossword puzzle is in there!

The experience of riding my bike. Warm sunshine, wind in the face, the concrete flying by just inches under my boots, sound of the engine, oh, and the smells of frest cut grass. There's nothing that comes close.

I just came back from giving a presentation to the Davis Islands Garden Club on which fruit trees are best suited for our island. There were approximately 90 ladies. It's a ladies club with women ranging in age from OLD to VERY OLD!
They asked great questions and I always ENJOY speaking to this, my "home island" group. Doesn't hurt that they throw an awesome luncheon too!

Frightened?! Let's not trivialize the magnitude of this, dear boy, they have been irreversibly traumatized. Your one saving grace is that you don't cast a reflection when you look in the mirror . . . (Good to see you, Paul, how the hell are you? )

things that make Lavaman smile..?
Convertibles. Pref with only two seats. (date optional). Sunsets. Dogs. Riding my bike(s). Triathlon, Xterra, whatever. My a-2 leather jacket, Lucchesses, and new jeans on first day of fall. Ditto mulling spices. Motorcycles. Dont care how old or what kind. The iPod: thousands of songs in one tiny place. Love it. Reese's peanut butter cups. A good glass of Maker's, on the rocks, while listening to Kind of Blue And on and on.... |
