5513 vs 14060 differences in case?
Hi everybody, even though this is the vintage forum, I know many of you own a 14060 in addition to a 5513. My question is, how are they different in terms of their cases? Is the 14060 noticeably chunkier, thicker, and heavier?

They're the same but Rolex used better stainless steel (904L - better rust resistance) on the 14060. The 14060 is obviously newer so it looks fresh with sharp edges while most 5513s look tired with worn out.

The most noticeable difference is the crystal of course. The domed plexi crystal on the 5513 is the thing I notice the most between mine. Also, the bi-directional bezel on the 5513 vs the unidirectional on the 14060. Case size/thickness is very similar IMHO. I prefer to wear my 5513. (of course it is because my girlfriend has stolen my 14060m )

I think the Matt Dial 5513 is a much better looking watch...That being said, I own a 14060M as a regular wearer along with my 16600 Sea Dweller...Go figure???

I think 14060m case is bigger than the 5513 case . maybe 40mm/39mm diameter. |

currently I have both a vintage 5513 and 14060m in hand. the 14060m definitely is heavier and "chunkier". but the difference is very minimal, at least to me.

I have owned both - the 14060 case is newer and "sharper" and maybe feels a bit heavier but both feel just right on the wrist
and of course you don't see fat font faded inserts on 14060s... this is my worn and tired 45 year old 5513 |

The cases are not similar if you really look at the details:
1. The crownguard side profiles are different. The 14060 curve up on the backside while the 5513 curve down 2. The lug shape is different. The profile of the 14060 lug is thinner then that of a 5513 which is beefier when looking at it from the side. 3. Obviously the crystals are different 4. The bezels are different though you can easily make a 14060 a bi-directional as well.

IMO, in terms of how they wear, the case back is what makes the difference: the 5513 caseback and how it septs relative to the lugs makes it wear "flatter" on the wrist. I prefer this over the 14060 where the case back seems to project out a bit farther beyond the lugs watch - due to this the 14060 seems to wear a bit more "top heavy" causing the watch to settle to one side of the wrist vs. the 5513 that seems to lay flatter in place and less prone to sliding to the outer edge of the wrist. Perhaps a matter of personal preference, but I have a clear preference for how the 5513 wears on the wrist.
