Great pair :)
Hi I get what you are saying, being solid gold with solid end links the 16618 feels very substantial, yet keeping the classic proportions. I love mine as well.

I'm an average size guy (7.25 wrist) and think the 40mm sizes just looks better

I will always be a 5-digit guy as well. These are just... well... perfect.

I also prefer the 5 digit Sub and GMT. As I type this wearing my 6 digit Air-King.

5 digits are great. Love how much lighter they feel on the wrist

Very nice! One of my top 3 favorite references.

I'm a 4/5 digit fan as I wear a nato 95% of the time.

That said.... I snagged a 124060 as they got a lot right with this one. The case is better, it's not really that much larger, the bracelet is excellent, the AR on the crystal is killer. The lume and movement are a step forward.

Unlike the bloated 114060's this one looks good on a strap!

That said my sweet spot is still the 4/5 series pieces but I've got a project lined up for the 124060 to bring it back down to the 4/5 digit tool watch vibe.

Pics for reference:

I'm not going to be a 100% six digit convert but I realized that comparing old vs new isn't always fair for either side. It's like comparing a 80's series Land Cruiser to a 200 Series Land Cruiser. Both are fantastic vehicles that will go the distance, one happens to be less refined but just as capable (if not more) at some things than the newer series.

Bring the economics into it - today might be too late for folks to get into a 5 digit (14060/M or 16610) as pricing has skyrocketed. Market is asking $9-12k for one, if it's what the heart desires price doesn't matter. But for the "what do you get for the money" it's hard to beat a new reference at MSRP.

I think the 16610 and 14060M will have a greater price jump in the coming months/years than other references as they are the last of the "true" sports models and the last with the loved/desired lug holes.

Good buy and nice set OP!

Pardon my ignorance but is that a sub with the cyclops removed or with a different crystal? Looks great, also with the nato strap. I specifically bought a Sea Dweller 16600 because I don’t like the cyclops.

Small hammer and knife took the cyclops off. I feel it is the panty line of Rolex.

Changes the visual on it tremendously.

IIRC I think daytona crystals swap if you desire no cyclops and don't want to knock it off. The whole process was done in under 3 seconds.

Back to Being a Five Digit Guy

5 digit sub and GMT definitely have their own charm and elegance with their thinner hands and curvy case. The latest 12661x series are a nice compromise with their curvy shape as well.

Today I am wearing my 2007 bluesy so couldn’t agree more.

5 digit is my preference for any Rolex, unfortunately, I'm late to the game price-wise. I came close so many times and balked, now it's out of the question. Was seeing ExpIIs for the high 4Ks/low 5Ks when I was looking. Coulda shoulda woulda... Oh well.

5 digits are classic by now, I simply love them too, I feel grateful for having a 14060M and 16610.

5 digit Sub is simply perfect. Right case size, bracelet, drilled lugs…it goes on and on
