I can't imagine ever asking a stranger a question like that, and no stranger has asked me yet.

But I love letting my friends try on the watches. It's like letting someone hold/play with your baby. You want people to oooh and aaaahh at how perfect it is.

Friends and family. I once tossed my SD to a friend to try on all while yelling "heads up!"

Just kidding about the toss

If it's someone I know and who shares an interest in watches, I see no problem. I have let former colleagues and friends try on my watches. Women, no. As I have seen some drop watches in dealers

Oftentimes I get a question at the track about Rolexes and I usually take mine off and hand it over so they can have a good look. Then I talk through the key points of the watch. Of course these are usually people who I already trusted with my life so no real worries.

This happened to me once only, a few years ago. I asked the person what he was smoking and said "absolutely not." My answer today would be similar, but a little different; to wit: "*#%@, no!"

If I know them well I'll let them. Usually they say it's too heavy & quickly give it back, especially if they're women. I think people are intimidated by the expense & want a way to give it back quickly, so that nothing bad happens as most people seem to think that a Rolex is made of fragile crystal.

For instance today I helped my daughter's best friend move & she asked to try on my watch but quickly handed it back & was shocked that I was wearing it while moving heavy furniture & appliances. And even more shocked that I wore it to do everything including the gym & swimming, "You take that in the water?!" I explained that it is a tank, but she quickly & gently handed it back as if it were going to break.

If a complete stranger asked, I would say no. Friend or family.. yes. Have I ever been asked? Not yet.

I've only ever had other watch lovers/collectors ask and it's been an equal exchange for a minute or two while we admire the one we don't own...yet. Usually at the pub with friends, at a gathering of watch collectors, a watch dealer's shop, or a watch show.

I've never had a strange person, or friend, or family just randomly ask to try on my watch. I'd consider it weird. Would you ask someone to try on their wedding band, or ask a woman to try on her diamond necklace? I'd say that unless a person is "socially awkward" then they wouldn't even think of asking.

When you say "people", do you mean total strangers? That's quite odd. I have no problem letting friends try on my watches.

Come to think of it, one time I let a sales person at Wempe (in the Rolex section) try on an AP I was wearing. For some reason, that seemed ok to me.

Yeah same happened to me, I was trying on a Patek and the salesman asked, in fact almost demanded I show him my AP. He was genuinely interested in seeing it and so lost a bit of professionalism I think, but it was a fun experience all round.

When I 1st got my DateJust my brother & sister in law were in awe to be in the same room with a Rolex. My sister in law whispered "is that a ROLEX?". And I gladly took it off my wrist to let them try it on. If my brother asked me to wear it to an event, I would let him of course. He is very responsible. Besides, the watches will be willed to him then down to the kids so if he wants to borrow his inheritance a bit early, he can. If I were to go to a meet, no problem letting anyone try it on. Have to keep myself between the watch & the door, but anyone can try it on. No stranger or co-worker has ever asked me to try it on. I probably would let them depending on who they were. Then again, I have known my co-workers a very long time.

Even then, it depends on the watch; my 16610 daily driver, no problem.

My 1970 restored Red Sub....no fricken way !!!

If its an attractive lady, I take it off and put it on their wrist when they ask. I dont mind people trying it one, as long as they dont close the clasp or open it themselves, because they end up just pulling at it and dont understand how to properly do it in a lot of cases.

If friends or family asked I would have no problem. If a stranger asked absolutely no way.

At dinner parties or casual drinks with friends all the time. Especially with a new piece as I want to enable the fellows to have a good argument for their significant other to acquire a new watch...

Only a family member or close friend. Never over a hard surface if dropped. I would never lend the Rolex out. You always find they will not look after it as well as you do.

All the time to families and friends. In fact, I hand it to them even before they ask if they show interest.

No for sure if strangers.
