G'day from New Zealand

I'm a new member. Hello. I would like some advice on restoring a Tudor Oyster. I've picked up a basis steel oyster pretty cheap. Does not have it's original rolex strap and the dial eaither needs cleaning or retoration. I've been searching around and come across a dial known as the California dial. The question I have is can I purchase such a dial or are they a 'restoration' of the original dial? There is obviously a big debate about the merits of such a dial - comments welcome.
I'd contemplate buying one if they are for sale. Without the strap I'm thinking of not being such a purist with this one and "hotting' it up so to speak, so it doesn't look such a dull watch. Cheers.

Kiwi Club

Hi Brian

Welcome to the Kiwi Club! Kia Ora bro

Currently only members are me and JJ. We are both in auckland very near the city. Mansors is the place to shop around here.

Regarding the "cali dial", firstly i doubt in NZ or anywhere you will find an original and secondly its only popular with the "panny club" or panerai boys as the cali dial radiomir is one hot watch!!!!!!

Keep posting and take care.

Hi Brian,

Don and I both live in Auckland. A big welcome to you too. Which part of NZ are you from?

If you're from Auckland maybe the 3 of us can get together sometime.

Cheers - JJ

Welcome to TRF Brian most of the so called California dials, are just repainted ordinary dials. Its always best to keep a watch as original as possible, now perhaps your dial just needs a clean or could be restored.

Welcome to TRF, Brian.

I'd follow Padi's recommendation about the cali dials. He's one of our resident gurus.

A word of advice. Don't tell JJ where you live. He'll probably want to bring his sheep over so you can party with them. Stay away from the BKL if you want to retain any shred of sanity.

But don't let that stop you from joining the fun here. So keep posting and keep us posted on what you decide with your Tudor.

Welcome Brian! I feel sorry for you if you live near JJ. If you own sheep, then don't tell him where you keep them!

Welcome to TRF Brian and beware of the bald kiwi loon or BKL as he's commonly known.
