What would you do for a SS Daytona?

I'd do anything for just the opportunity to buy one!

Some of you may have heard about my story, I was at the AD and he had a SS White dial Daytona that had just come in. My wife though, decided I had exceeded "watch buying allowance" for the year.

If that's the case, you are talking about 10 more days before end of this year..

Charlie, thanks for bringing this subject up! I love telling my story....

Back in the middle of 07, when the SS were really hard to get, I talked to the manager of the AD I had bought my GMT from and told her she was going to find me a SS Daytona. After she got up from the floor from laughing so hard... I said: "You'll see"

I did a little snooping and found out she liked Godiva Choclates, so, the next week she had a box. The week after that she had some Starbucks Coffee, after that, it was bagels and cream cheese. At least every couple weeks I would drop off a little something for her, usually a small box of the Godiva's, but did mix it up for variety. She kept telling me to stop, that it was impossible to get a SS Daytona and the bribary would do no good, but I kept it up, saying it was just thanks for taking such good care of me as a customer with my GMT purchase a few years earlier... (of course that was all BS). Around Christmas time, after several months of this, she called and said she "Thinks" she might be able to get one. Every couple weeks she would call with an update and the last week in January, she said she expected one in by the end of the week. Friday, Febuary 1st, 2008, I put on a suit and tie, and went to pick up my SS Daytona. Of course along the way I purchased the absolute biggest box of Godiva Choclates I could find, and to this day, I drop off a box now and then, but believe me, it was all well worth it.

Sounds like you paid more than the average person for a white SS daytona.

Congrats on the purchase, though.

I would wait until the Rolex AD calls.

Buying a Rolex Daytona is no light-hearted matter (for me), therefore I was not prepared to get ripped off from the grey market or have someone else's name on MY Daytona, even though I always had the funds available.

This one is always gonna be a bit special. Patience does it and Good Luck. Cheers

I put my name down at an AD in Zurich and waited 5 years to get one at the full MRSP! It was worth the wait!

Discuss it more with your wife, If you can afford it, go for it. If not, save for it.

I would do nothing for a SS Daytona. However, a WG with metorite dial can be different story.

The Daytonas does nothing for me ATM.

Try to convience your wife - bet the SS would be a "better" investment than most of her jewelleries.

Not a huge fan of the modern Daytona especially the S.Steel versions much prefer the TT.But now say a modern day Daytona with a dial and bezel like my 6263 then perhaps I might be interested.

SS Daytonas are available through Goldsmiths (AD) in London with no more than a 1-3 month wait.

Instead of a Daytona for the same scratch I'd prefer 3 Tudor chronos, one in each bezel style.

With all that effort and you didn't at least get a date out of it ? And perhaps more ?

(You surely don't expect us to believe you did all this and the lady in question walked on all 4s ?)

Unfortunetely David, the lady is beautiful, intelligent and very classy, in other words, way out of my league.

Paul, Paul, Paul....WhatamIgonnadowit'you ? Never assume they're out of your league. Does she know about the promotion ? Y'know, ever' now 'n' again, $$ go a long way toward relaxing any real or perceived "Standards". Keep in mind there are a lot of very good looking wimmen out there who somehow get hooked up with some very ordinary-looking schmoes. Some of them wearing nice watches .
