Replica Day-Date sighting

I sat across from a guy at lunch who appeared to be wearing a Day-Date . First I noticed the crown was discolored, but I couldn't clearly make out a coronet. The bezel looked like it may have once been gold, had all rubbed off and turned to a dull silver . The band looked cheap and I couldn't get a look at the clasp at all. I also noticed the second hand didn't sweep so I knew for sure that it wasn't a Rolex at that point . Halfway through lunch I finally got a good look at the dial and there it was... a Rolex coronet on the dial . This was a horrible fake... a $20 NYC fake probably . I made sure to flash my SD a few times while at the table... maybe he got the hint ?

Nah, he probably thinks yours is as fake as his. After all, why would anyone shell out 4 figures for a watch when you can get something just as good for $20.

I saw one the other day at the liquor store.
The clerk serving me, looked like a classic DJ.
He noticed me trying to get a better look at it, and kept moving his hand so I couldn't see properly..
But when he handed me my receipt, the underside of the bracelet was all wrong.

Was he trying to impress anyone with that? or he was simply wearing it?
I hate it when someone wearing a fake one asking me where they can find one like mine thinking I am wearing a fake also.

He doesn't take care of himself and dresses poorly, so I don't think he's really out to impress anybody .

Here in Qatar I went to the gold soukes (stores) and wanted to see nice watches. They have "Activ" brand, whatever that is. Then for nice watches they have Casio. I was not impressed. The salesman said, "You want fakes?" He then reached into his jewelry display and removed the trays of necklaces and rings. Underneath was about 200 watches piled on! He had Breitling, Rolex, Panerai, Gucci,... It was like the scene in Men in Black where he pushes a button and the walls rotate to reveal an arsenal.

I looked at all the fakes, they were terribly done! Well for $40 starting, what should one expect. The salesman asked about he one I was wearing, I told him it was real. He asked to see it and his assistant came rushing over to see too. I wonder if they have ever seen a real one.

There was no worry that they would swap mine for a fake, they were THAT bad! I am surprised anyone buys them!

They have so far to go. That's like looking at a real Ferrari while you sell burned out Pintos. They were terrible. The president models did not even have the day lining up in the windows! How basic is that?!

So true. Regardless of quality, My problem with them is, If I am spending a hundred bucks on a folex, I'd rather spend that money on a nice seiko.

When I was 15-16 years old, I was glad to get a fake. The fakes made me want to own a Real Rolex. I stopped wrist checking many years ago.If I see a guy selling Ferrari and Mercedes with a Sub, I assume he's wearing the real deal. At the professional level in life, if I see someone with a Rolex that appears established and older then they are probably wearing a real one.

The more they wave it around, the less chance it is real.

Hmmm can the same be said for picture postings on this forum maybe?

It's amazing in Thailand, you ask a shop dealer if he has Rolex, and a secret doorway panel in the (fake) wall is revealed leading to an entirely new shop out the back or side with fake everything.

Well, I hate to put brands down but the Invicta 8926 is the worst looking fake sub. The date doesn't look like it is magnifiying anything either. I know it is a great watch well engineered but still a replica. The Swiss counterpart of the 8926 looks like a fake Tudor.

I think most people who buy fake Rolexes have probably never seen a real one

I agree with you. When people see Rolex in a window of a jewelry store they either go inside or know that can't afford it so why see it. Same story with Invicta they buy one without ever going to see a Real Rolex sub. They are getting a deal for an 8926 for $75-100 on the bay though. A non-threatening place to do Rolex research is a pawnshop that buys/sells Rolex advertised on the building. They usually have verified genuine watches and a person can try on the models they have an get a good idea of Rolex quality and feel

When I was younger, I was in school. I was told by a counceler to keep my grades up and opportunities would come. They came and I got grants etc. I was always a gadget person. Rolex and Montblanc pen were luxury items of the wealthy in my opinion. I focused on saving money to own them. As far as the collections of massive amounts of Rolexes in a single collection, I congratulate you. One strange thing is after you own one Rolex then you surely wind up wanting another. You can't have too much of a good thing. I guess that belies happiness to an extent. Hope this talk inspires you.

Well I have a couple Gen rolex 1680,16610 and a FAKE 6263. I also own the models of cars you describe although the F car is a 80s model I also have a 3.3 930.
I dont consider myself a plastic person for wearing the fake because really I dont want attention. I just love the look of the 6263. Paying $30,000 for a watch that cost $500 new and thats likely beat up on its last leg ?

i'm sure a lot of people think my DJ is fake as it looks different to the 'new' models in stores and also as my basic pay is not great and the guys i work with dont spend money things like that.

its funny, when i didnt have to work long hours and was always taking time off i was called lazy, and yet now i work up to 95 hours a week(i want that panerai!) they laugh and call me greedy! guess you cant win!

It is sad that people gets profiled even before they get to know the person.... Having a Rolex doesn't mean that you're elite, it just means that you've worked hard to get it and that you've rewarded yourself with a great product.
