Icon5 Is there really an undestructible Rolex?

My jeweler has an obsession for the Rolex Deepsea and pretends that it is allmost undestructible, he claims he could dive at a 3000 meter depth (is that even possible?) and it would still be in perfect shape. He says he could drive on it with his car and there would be no scratches and could hit the watch with a scottish warhammer and it wouldn't even break the glass. Is he nuts or is the watch really that good?

He's nuts. The steel will scratch; the crystal will shatter. (Although you should get him to acknowledge those claims in writing when you purchase, and then you'll have free polishing and crystal replacement for the life of the watch.)

Rolex watches are certainly robust pieces and are capable of surviving in incredible enviornments. Nothing however is indestructible.

My answer would be NO!

This was posted by another member here (forgot who, sorry) said it was in a motorcycle accident. Ouch!

Do you think these little scratched could be buffed out?

Well, Steve, that ain't a DSSD

Having said that, NOTHING is indestructible. The dive - it would take, no doubt. Running it over with the car - only if it a Prius. It is sturdier than most other watches on the market, but certainly not as bulletproof as your jeweler claims.

How about scratches and bumps? Can i use it as a weapon to slam in people's face or will it damage the Deepsea? What would it look like if i threw it down from the top of the Triumph Arc in Paris? That kind of stuff. I am looking for an elegant watch which i can wear all the time considering my extreme lifestyle. (I'm no James Bond mind you, i just tend to get in some fights and travel a lot...)

Close enough for me to tell me that a watch with the same basic construction will react the same way with the pavement!

BTW, we need a test watch, got a spare ya wanna test?

The DSSD is an outstanding watch and one that I will aquire again in the future. it is made incredibly well and can take hits, knocks, but not a hammer that is an exageration on his part. No doubt it is a fine piece to own and still on my favorite list as far as Rolex is concern, The only reason for selling was because I needed something that woiuld be both dressy and sporty since I can only afford one Rolex right now. but for an everyday watch the DSSD is the best IMHO......

If you want to put a watch through that much punishment, maybe a G-Shock is a better choice than a Rolex In all seriousness though, as luxury watches go, you won't be able to find a more robust watch at this price point than the Deepsea. Excellently engineered, it might pick up small scratches here and there, but the watch itself will be fine - and that bad boy weighs a fair bit as well (one of the heaviest in the line up), so although I wouldn't recommend using a £6000 watch as a knuckleduster, if you land a hit with it, the other guy is going to hurt in the morning

Agree that the DSSD would survive a 3000m dive but he would not, infact he would be dead way before 3000m (Yes it is impossible) and to state that it wouldn't have any scratches after driving over it is quite ridiculas, I won't even comment on the hammer.

Next time you back into the AD please inform the salesperson he is in fact an idiot

No doubt the DSSD is a tough bit of kit though and is probably one of the toughest watches out there.

Johnathan, ask your jeweler what color the sky is in his world,

as I often dreamt of a world that this jeweler must know.

Have to agree with Mike and might I suggest that your jeweller or both are living on fantasy island.

Your jeweler is an idiot. The DeepSea is made of metal and glass.........It can be destroyed pretty easily

I'd go with the DSSD. Just think about it. If your going to knock someone's jaw loose on a regular basis, The extra weight of the DSSD would come in handy.

If your more of a quick jab guy, and like to duck and move between punches, go with the Pepsi GMT.

If your more of a ground fighter, go with an Invicta.

I'm a back hand type guy. I like the Breitling Superocean chrono for that.

Not sure we should be recommending the use of a watch as a weapon. Too much violence "out there" as it is.

Wow those are some crazy claims of durability! If it withstands all that, Rolex has been selling them for way under what they should be sold for!

I heard that the DSSD isnt actually water resistant, but the Sea is DSSD resistant

If your AD told me that I would on him while telling him he was and then i would leave.
