Yes I agree. I was fortunate enough to be able to see a few events in Vancouver and Whistler and was very impressed by how well the games were run, not to mention all the helpful people who pointed me in the right direction when I was frantically trying to pick up tickets and get to my events on time.
Here's an article from today's LA Times that captures it pretty well I think. http://www.latimes.com/sports/olympi...4599199.column |

I've noticed a big difference here in the city - everyone is friendly and generally in a great mood. I'm not sure how long it will last but these Olympics were great for us!
I hope we host again in my lifetime! |

Great Olympics. There were glitches (aren't there always?!), and the weather didn't exactly cooperate, but Canada & Vancouver kept the spirit of the Olympics alive, and in the end, that's what it's all about. The world got to see what a beautiful place British Columbia is.

I was lucky enough to have been able to spend a day in Vancouver two years ago. The best city I have ever been to... it truly is an amazing city; and a cruse to Alaska, the city of Vancouver was one of the high points.

It was truely, an EVENT that hasnt been seen here since 'Expo 86'. That, put us (YVR) on the map. These Olympics confirmed that Vancouver is truely an International city with soo much to offer.
When I first came to YVR, it was a small city...(compared to where I came from)..and over the 25+ years since, the changes in its cosmopolitanism has been incredible. . A fantastic Olympics, participants and finale..!! What more can one ask for.....! . |

The miracle on ice is talked about alot in the States but in hockey terms the summit series was the pinacle of Canadian hockey. Canada did NOT refuse to send a team, Olympic hockey didn't allow pros to participate. Not to burst a bubble but Canadians only sent amateurs to the Olympics, the Russians had so called pros. They were all registered with the russian army so the best showed up to play in the Olympics. My statement was refering to the best hockey moment, including both series and Olympics. Quick question snow rock but how many of the miracle on ice particpants made it to the pros (NHL) and how many Stanley cup rings did they win in total? I'll give you a hint single digit rings, I'm NOT bashing the miracle , it was an amazing feat by those Americans ,so would you care to compare teams , starting with Olympic gold medal champions if you like. |

2nd Point! Canada didn't send a team in '72, or '76 to the Olympics! Something about a protest concerning amateur and professional athletes! 3rd Point! Again, you had quoted my 1st post, which regarded Olympics, and Olympics only! You included the series! I don't watch the NHL, as I can see that every 4 years in the Olympics! As far as the last statement, I happy the USA does good in hockey, especially when the USA is seeded in the middle of the pack, and beat a team that beat Russia and Slovakia, then nearly beat the same team for the GOLD MEDAL! I don't follow the NHL! Again to state from my initial post, this one will be talked about for a lot of Olympics to come! |

You can now go dream about The Miracle On Ice. You see, in Canada, we don't have miracles on ice. We just call them games that Canada wins. Been there. Done that. And, we'll be BEING THERE and DOING THAT again and again and AGAIN. No miracle. Our country produces the BEST players in the WORLD. Just look at the nationality of the captains of the NHL Stanley Cup winning teams. Only 1 Euro player and only 1 American amongst ALL OF THE OTHER CANADIAN STANLEY CUP WINNING CAPTAINS. A miracle? No. Just good ole' everyday Canada. |

Geez, no need to turn something as positive and uniting as the Olympic experience into an argument.
I'm just happy that I now have a moment that approaches the Henderson moment of '72 in my living memory. My older brother harps on and on about the Summit Series that I was born one year too late for... Hey, kudos to the USA ladies! They seemed genuinely happy when they received their silver medals. When the USA men got theirs they looked like someone was hanging an IRS audit notice around their necks! Now, pardon my uncalled for Canadianism: CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! I'm sorry... m. |

Geez.....this thread was a compliment to our Canadian neighbors for the great job they did in bringing the Olympic games to the world. Not about arguing over who plays hockey the best.....

Thanks to the Americans who provided the team that made our win worth watching! That was a lot more enjoyable than witnessing some 8-1 blowout. Now if we could just get a few CFL - NFL interleague games! m. |

I am Canadian and am proud of the job we did in Vancouver...as well as our gold medal win...BUT I will say this....I believe having the professionals playing from the NHL does give the Canadians an edge, as the majority of nhl players are Canadian, and from the lineups that Yzerman picked for this years team, quite a few of the players had already played with one another during the NHL season, and some had played with each other during tenures with other NHl seasons...where the USA, Russian, SLovaks...all were put together just before the games and time to mesh and gel does take time...maybe the reason for the Russians poor showing as I believe they were the more talented team....give each team a few weeks of training camp and replay these games and I believe the outcome would have been different

Early in the Olympics I thought the Canada team was too heavily tilted toward veterans with not enough youth and speed, but obviously the gold medal proves Yzerman knew what he was doing. I just hope the NHL keeps going to the Olympics in Sochi and beyond, I think it would be a real mistake to carry through on the recent statements from Bettman about maybe pulling out . . . |
