Is this OK or just Wrong?

Hi All,

What do you guys think?
I'm starting to think wrong.

I assume you're talking about the 5513 at the bottom?

There have been several attempts by various people to apply a subdued PVC coating to various Rolex watches over the years.

I believe this was done to some GMT-MASTERS a while back. It's a real watch with a latter coating applied. Rolex will service the watch, but unless OK'd by them (not sure if this happened back then) they will strip the coating and restore the orginal finish.

Interestingly this very procedure is being done on select pieces (Subs) in a limited run by a collector/dealer in the UK now. I thought I had read it was with Rolex blessing, but I not sure on that.

I believe the watch has fixed spring bars. Photo Credit--BJSONLINE.

Hi Mike,
Yes I know it is a real watch and there is one genuine Rolex made one around somewhere as this dealer has sold it in the past.
The dealer in question is a very well known Rolex specialist in the UK and I think is possibly the person you refer to as maybe blacking them with Rolex blessing.
I was just wondering if it was wrong to coat your Submariner, Sea-Dweller or GMT in black?
Just fitting Nato straps seems to be quite contentious, so I though maybe this would be worse?
Cheers,

Spark.

P.s. Great picture!!!!

And several models for certain countries of military issued Subs were coated,to keep reflection to minimum.

This is the first I've heard of such Subs, but it does make sense. If I'm doing a recce on a beach, the last thing I'd want is a shiny watch that says, "Hey, look at me! I'm here!".

While it certainly isn't purist, but I think it's really cool looking! If I were a guy, and were looking for my 2nd Rolex, this would be it (don't hate me). I love how understated it is.
