Pros and Cons of Applying PVD

I'm thinking of applying PVD to my 005 pam. Are there any points I need to be aware of such as price drop, service etc?

Not on a 005. Just get a quality guy like Jake @IWW.

If you scratch the PVD it'll hurt the value.

Do you know if panerai will service them or like rolex they wouldn't touch them?

I have a similar desire and have been doing some research over at Paneristi site. General opinion is that you should only do it if you plan on keeping the watch and don't mind invalidating the warranty (assuming it is even still under warranty). Also servicing through Panerai may result in some complications (imagine they replace crown parts with non-PVD). I've formed the conclusion that it makes sense if:

A) you really want it -- it's your watch so do what you like

B) it's a beater watch that you want to change up and maybe even enhance depending on how badly it is beat up

I have yet to see a post from someone that confirms that they have serviced a PVC/DLC 'd watch, but most seem to think that Panerai will have no problem taking your money for servicing.

You probably don't want to do it just to try it out and think you may be flipping it in the near future.

Thanks Jackson. I'm also tempted on selling my 005 and a rolex in order to get a special edition panerai which is already coated in PVD. They seem to be over priced so need to think about it more.

It is a 6497. Just service outside of Panerai.

Thanks, Any thoughts on pam 28? It's not a in house movement so would that make it less desirable? Also I noticed there are 10 pam 28 on ebay alone. The watch looks good but will it hold its price in the future since its a limited production of 1000?

now i have a question of my own: does 1950 or luminor have ceramic case?

i love the look of 292, but i personally have a bad experience with cheaper ceramic cased watch. so i don't know if i can ever live with another one.

Anyone who is considering PVD'ing their watch should talk and at least get a quote from Panerai direct, I heard they will do it, of course not the cheapest around but if they PVD'ed their watch how could they actual void any warranty?

i wonder if when servicing the watch, if the tools used to remove the case back, remove bracelet, and bezel will also remove or scratch the PVD, how can you repair those scratches? Do you have to re-do the PVD, and what service center wants to be held liable for that?

I would think that can service/repair without scratching, Panerai currently still services/repairs the older 5218-202/A, 5218-203/A, Pre A 4, the 4A and the 4B, Pre A 9, 9A and 9B as well as the 26A, 26B 28A and the 28B series and reissued the 26K and 28L this last couple of years.
