I dropped a 312......at my AD
I was at my AD trying on a 312 and comparing it to a 104 and a 287. The deployment straps make the 104 and the 287 fit very well. My wrist size is between between holes on the strap of the 312. I was trying to get the 312 to the next notch tighter when it slipped from my hands and on to the quarry tile floor. I think all the blood drained from my face, I wasn't the same for the next 12 hours. We looked at the watch immediately and didn't see any damage. I called my AD today and he said he found some damage after looking through a magnifying glass. They were able to fix it but I haven't seen it yet. I feel like I dodged a bullet, I'm still undecided between the 3 but I'm leaning toward the 104.

WOW - probably my worst nightmare possible when in an AD!! Hope all things turn out ok for you - I am sure they carry some form of insurance for this type of incident so don't worry too much and don't let him lever you into a sale. All are good though - I am looking at my 312 as we speak dreading that occurance ever happening!!!

They carry insurance. So you dropped it! Big deal!
Don't ever let a store make you pay for something that has been damaged in their store. If you do decide on the 312, make sure it is not the one you dropped.

The worse thing is that you were probably embarrassed.

x 2 - just be aware you will not be the first - and certainly not the last by any means - don't beat yourself up, it's not as if you went in there to drop a watch - you were a prospective buyer and still are! Good luck with your choice anyway.

Its their property. Its their risk and they should be insured for that.Simple, it can happen. No problem, dont worry about it.
What I do is,when looking at expensive watches at the AD,is to ask them if I can have a look at them at a desk.Seated, over the desktop .... no risk.I see it as respect for their goods and that of the future owner of the watch. |

That happens and ADs know it. As has been said your panic and embarrassment are what's worst in this scenario!
I have the 104 and love it. But if it were me I'd go the 312. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the replies! I have a very good relationship with this dealer and they were very good about it. They are the local Rolex dealer. I think they should at least have a rug down or something.
In order to get the 312 to fit, my dealer took the strap from the 104 and put it on the 312. It was very comfortable with the thinner strap and deployment clasp. However, I liked how the 312 looks with its intended strap better than with the strap from the 104. I'm going to have to go back in! |

The horror and embarrasment you felt, and the fact that you phoned them back the following day says a great deal about your character.
Of course, they have insurances so ultimately, no harm done. But hell, what a situation.......... |
