Buying Pre-Owned

hi,

I am shopping around for a pre-owned non COSC 14060 and is wondering what are the things that i should look out for.

anyone have and links or photos as to how a mint and over polished case should look like?

also in the case of t<25 dials, how do i make sure that the pearl, dial and hands are of the same "age" and not replaced at one time or anther?

what should i be bringing along to examine a watch and what should i take notice of?

a rolex noobie here. any help and links is greatly appreciated.

If you're interested in dial consistency, I suggest you bring a loupe with you. The newest tritium dials are at least 10 years old by now, so very slight yellowing should be apparent. If replaced by luminova/ superluminova they will be bright white as these hardly ever fade.

As for over-polishing, check the lugs as a poor polish will lose the bevels. I also like checking the crown guards to make sure they are even.

Hope this helps.

I picked up mine 'pre owned' just about a year ago. It's a U serial, which dates it to 98 or 99 I believe. It had never been serviced or polished as far as we can tell ( I've since had Dalton service it and replace the insert). I'm the 3rd owner....As for what to look for...just make sure it's the real deal, buy from a reputable AD or from a trusted seller here on TRF. Everything else is appearence and whether or not it sings to you.

Hi Terrance,

I can tell you one little trick to watch out for.... Original polish of the lugs is in the same direction as the band... in other words the polish marks run at right angles away from the watch.

It is hard to re-polish the lugs this way ....and many watches which are re-polished have the polish lines going across the lugs, or even in a pattern around the bezel.

As per this photo.

Kindest regards,
Jack
