Fake 1680 Cases - with no long E
Its becoming harder to spot the fake 1680 cases........
A bit of a worry here. Fake 1680 cases but with no long E on the mid case showing. Case backs do not look good, the crown guards being the real giveaway. seller sheavun http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...=STRK:MEWAX:IT Not my picture - from VRF |

Thanks for the heads-up Michael. Just so I'm certain I follow you, the difference between fake and real is that the fake crown guards begin their taper along the same line as the edge of the case immediately adjacent to the crown, instead of beginning the taper at a point lateral of that edge?

Hmm, not following you. Do you have a pic from another angle that shows these CG angles, either on the genuine or fake article?

By the way, I wouldn't necessarily say that the base of the crown guards are exactly perpendicular to the case edge. In the top picture below (genuine 1680), the angle at the base of the crown guards is just slightly greater than 90°, but then breaks out to a wider angle. Contrast this with the second picture of a 1665, which maintains a continuous wide angle from the base of the crown guards. In view of this, it seems like the rule of thumb maybe should be that the crown guards on a genuine 1680 begin near 90° and then break out at a wider angle, and the fake ones have a continuous wide angle from the base of the crown guards to their tips.
Then again, maybe the crown guards of the 1680 in the top pic (and my own 1680 crown guards) are just a bit worn so as not to be perfectly at 90°? |
