5513 question

This watch is currently listed on e-bay a late R series 5513 with plastic crystal, item number 230516362026. The link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_1525wt_910

The seller is about an hour and a half from me and I am thinking about going to look at it.

I would prefer a matte dial but may get over that.

First I wanted to know if anyone has any opinions about the dial and case.

Thanks.

The dial looks clean and the case looks quite thick and unworn. It has a slight fade to the plots as well as the pearl. If I were you I would look for a matte dial without WG surrounds, they are much classier. Your call though. The watch looks good to me. Oh, BTW, the BIN price is too high IMO...Why don't you have a look here on the forum and see what you can find. If you are looking for vintage, Steve Mulholland has a nice selection, maybe he has what you are looking for. You can contact him here on the forum.

NP...IMO, you will get a much better deal and safer here that on eBay. There are several trusted sellers that sell here. These guys are top notch and since they don't have to pay eBay any silly fees you normally get a better deal.

What's a rare 'R' serial numbered watch from 1987-1/2 ?

Were R serials rare? Never heard of that...

I need to trade a watch and this seller has quoted me a good trade price. I would be nervous sending my watch via mail for a trade evaluation. Do you think I am wrong on this?

"R" series are not rare. First series to use a letter as a prefix in the serial number. Circa 1987/1988.

Looks like a nice watch, with some nice patina.

The asking price is $4,650 which is very, very high for the watch with no accessories. This watch should be between $3400 to $3600 based on what I've seen on the market. Maybe less if you are a good negotiator.

Let me tell you something, the trusted guys here are trusted for a reason. Read through the posts, look for DavidSW, Steve Mulholland, Bodybump and several others, sorry if I left you out. I would send any one of these guys my watch without question for an evaluation or trade. Would you mind posting your watch and what they offered you? I can bet you will do better here...

Got in trouble with Steve on my first post as a newbie by stupidly soliciting value opinions in the general rolex forum. So, here is my question. Are you sure I can post that picture and information and what they offered me. I would also have to explain the context - taht is what they are selling and what they are asking.

What would be a tolerable price. The listing says it has been serviced. Thanks.
