16610 or GMT IIc more valuable?
If we are considering the V series, which model do you think is more valuable($$$) - the 16610 or the GMT IIc? Just curious what your thoughts are ...

IIc is more valuable. Clasp & bezel cost a lot more.
There are soooooo many 16610's around they aren't going to be collectable anytime soon. JMHO of course. EDIT: All that said, I'd rather have the 16610.

Value in terms of resale - 16610. It's no longer produced, so the quantity is finite.
Value in terms of innovation - 116710. It's a newer watch, with the newer clasp, bezel, dial, etc. That said, IMHO modern sapphire crystals will not match a comparable price vintage in terms of collectible value.

Don't know exactly what you mean by more valuable the only difference in the majority of Rolex watches today is case style whether S.steel, or precious metal and difference in the retail price. As nearly all the models today except the chronographs movement wise are all based on the cal 3135 with or without added complications. If you are asking what might become collectible well would doubt if any modern day Rolex will become collectible just too many of them around. But watches should not be bought for value IMHO they should be bought because you want that particular model. Then wear that watch for the next 40 odd years in good health thats far more important. So don't think about value just buy the watch you like its that simple.

From watching the used markets, there are currently plenty of both available at pretty reasonable prices. The Subs do seem to be selling a good bit cheaper than the GMT IIc at the moment though.

Yeah, GMT-II ceramic version
Heck, even the GMT-II non ceramic is more valuable that the 16610 But time will tell I guess (maybe like 15 years!) |
