When it comes down to those two references, the lines get blurry for me.
I would have to inspect each piece independently and decide on its individual merit. If I prefer a 5513, but a 1680 in excellent condition would come along I would rather have that, and vice versa.

Given equal condition the 1680 wins for me. The crystal and date give it the nod.

Some can say the same for the 5513; ie superdome and lack of date |

Refuse to choose. I'll take both.
Can't choose. They are both great.

It boils down to whether you need date or not.

Prefer the 5513 because the dial is less busy.

Between the two, 5513 for me personally, mostly because of no date.
Would still very much like to own either a red 1680 or DRSD at some point though! |

5513 for me... a cleaner, classic look and I'm not a big fan of top hat & cyclops...

I like the dome....but I have to have a date. I just sold my 1665 to Clay, that is the best of both worlds...but cost a fortune.
I have to go with the 1680 vs the 5513 for the date feature. |

I have a '77 5513, but I'd swap it for a 1680 any day. Except it was my father's watch, so I'll never swap it for anything.

Like better the cleaner dial of 5513, and as I do not care for date feature in watches, no problem lacking this.
Also feel the 5513 has a more classic look and spirit of first Subs. 1680 is a great watch too, and one of them has been my only watch and daily wearer for decades. Anyway, I own both, to have the best of both worlds! Kind regards, Abel

I'am with Richard here...
My "starter" set (still growing), two gloss dials, one matte dial, one maxi, one wg surrounds and one gilt....all from only three watches!! So many variations of the 5513.......... |

I think the 5513 is more of a vintage look, and enjoy those as Sunday drivers.
The 1680 looks more like a beefy work watch, and is a little closer to matching my personality (overweight, and always at work) I'd have to say if given the chance to purchase one to wear lightly, I would select the 5513. |
