Rolex White Yacht-Master II Or Patek Nautilus 5711/1A Or Patek Nautilus 5712/1A

Rolex White gold Yacht-Master II (msrp $40,400) Or Patek Nautilus 5711/1A(msrp $23,600) or Patek Nautilus 5712/1A (msrp $$31,600).

I have seen all 3 and have tried on all 3 at AD. All 3 are stunning. If money wasn't an issue. Which one would you guys/gals pick out. Also for future values too. Which one would hold better?

YM II has a much interesting complication. And I think Patek steel watches are priced too high. Between YM II and 5711/1A or 5172/1A, I recommend YM II.

the YM II is imo BUTT UGLY
I mean it, it looks like a 50 usd fake Rolex

(sorry for they guys who have one)

A Patek 5712 is nicer than any Rolex, in case of the YM II I would rather have 1 5712 than 100 YM II

Don't forget , this is a die hard Rolex forum

Post this question on a neutral forum and I would be surprised if the Rolex got 10% of the votes. I'm 99.9% sure the Patek 5712 is BY FAR the winner

let's do the test

I made a poll on timezone's public forum , not the Rolex forum and not the Patek forum ( to have a mix of people who love or hate Rolex and people who love or hate Patek)

I just made the poll so you can follow the votes

I want to bet , the Rolex won't get much votes in this case LOL

I think both of them are so ugly. Not my cup of tea.

But Patek wins hands down.

sorry but at that price the metal choice is not important
They are both expensive, the cost of the gold is only a fraction of the cost.
If Rolex would have to make a similar watch as the Patek 5712 , same complications and same level of finishing !!! it would be as expensive as the Patek. You just can't compare a SS Patek with a SS Rolex. It's like comparing a SS sub with a Hamilton

Like said, look at this poll I made on timezone

http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=5505725&rid=54004

You do not get such a clear result very often !

between these 2 there is no contest

I love my Rolex and I love my Panerai but I really don't understand why some guys still think Rolex is the best you can get. They are great but if money is no object ... there a much better things out there.

I love my car, a BMW 3-series, this is a very good car
But if I could afford a a Porsche 911 Turbo ...
Anyway, you won't hear me say that I would choose the BMW over the Porsche
Just like I would not say my beloved 16610LV is better or more interesting than a Patek Philippe

Another factor is that any solid gold Rolex will plummet in secondhand value, whilst any PP will hold its price.

I have never liked the design of any watch PP has ever made so it would be the YM II that gets my vote.

Don't get me wrong, the Nautilus is very, very nice, but the YM II is a groundbreaking achievement in terms of watchmaking. I think it has real potential to be a future collectible, and could well be seen as a zenith of Rolex's watchmaking prowess. Sure, the looks aren't to everyone's taste, but the movement is nothing short of incredible

If you gave me the choice between a Patek Annual calendar and the YMII I would have chosen the Patek.

But since you did not I would have to chose the YMII.

The nautilus is really nice and I would wear it over the ym ii. But then again I'm not found of ym ii design.

That said, the nautilus should really be white gold at that price level though. Seems a bit out place for such a nice watch at that price level to be SS.

Vote for either PP here, preferably the 5712. Both PPs are classics; despite the cool movement the YMII is an eyesore. Rolex needs to rethink the design of the face.
