Bored with my PAM. Need suggestions....
Ok folks, here's the dilly: I told myself that I will own only ONE of any given brand, as there are just too many things out there that I want (made an exception for Milgausses, as I want to have two current ones - Green and White, plus a vintage 1019). At any moment, I have my eyes open for an IWC, JLC, Breguet, Blancpain, etc to add to collection. But I digress.
Panerai has always been a staple in my collection. Had to own at least ONE. Started off with an Arktos 92, then an older white dial Daylight (188), a 312 and 275 for a very short period of time, 292 non-dildo.... I mean non-pig , then the 289, which I found too flashy for my taste. There never been gaps between ownership, usually it would be from one right to another. As soon as I got rid of the 289, I bought a 329. But now it is getting almost no wrist time, only when I travel since it is a GMT. Not sure why, but I am bored of it. Don't have one in mind that I would like to own next, not even a clue. Want to stay under $10k, as I think that is where PAM's belong price-wise. In the recent past, I have handled the following models: 341 (not even a chance of wearing it ) 111-112-104 88 - 89 233 193 (the closest one to sparking my fancy just because it is different, but no date is a bummer) 311 296 297 Feel like I am running out of choices... Want to have a PAM in the collection, but don't know what to look at. This is frustrating Could it be that Panerai is just not for me? Sorry for long-winded post, folks.

As you know I tried to buy your dot dial 233 recently and it sold quickly to someone else. For me this is only PAM I really want after recently selling my 210.

well since your tastes are way more expensive than what my budget can handle.... i got no suggestions. (so why did i post?) ha ha
ok maybe just a simple base. i know it lacks the date and its not inhouse and so on and so on... but you wont loose anything if you want to sell it. and then you will at least have an affordable pam in your collection. just a thought buddy. |

I really think you need to have at least one Luminor and one Radiomir.
Need to know if you want simple dial or busy dial, automatic or manual, normal, 3 day, 8 day or 10 PR.... I like simple dials so I went the 000 and 210 route. Me happy chappy |

I don't think you should necessarily limit yourself to just one. Good thing about Panerai is the variety of cases.
How about a 190. Simple, JLC movement. The dial and hand combo are money although the canon pins are a big large. I know you like busier watches, so I won't even recommend the 372. Here are some good ones from SIHH 2011. If a date is critical....hmmmmm....the new 384 due out later this year / or next. Composite 386? new daylight with faux patina...356

Dig up a 55 (I'm trying to) and be there. Ti, base model, painted dial, full back as a dive watch should have, first run of the brown dials. Should be less than $6K mint and then save the rest.
The rest of PAMs are being too big, flashy/shiny and an never ending release of limited-this and that. |

since I know you wear watches on your right arm,
if you're feeling extra frisky go with Pam 217 otherwise 26K (a personal fav) 022 056 115 117 123 or the boring 219 |

Mark, 188 is too similar tot he 251.... Plus it appears you're bored of it, so why won't I be?
Vintage - can't do. Love it, but would never wear it. Ed, don't really care for Base for myself. I do need something a bit busier - I have a 'base' rolex in my Milgauss(es) 305 is a definite contender Eric, can't do two... Don't ask, I cannot explain it. Just too many brands out there.... I do like 1950's case in Lum or larger Rad, date, at least a 3-day PR. Don't care if automatic or manual, like both. Open to strap or bracelet. Open to complications - just no Chrono. MF, 384 - damn... Love it... 386 would have to see... Roach, like the 382, actually had an eye out for it since the press-release. I bet after couple years that patina will be awesome. Dan, watches back on the left arm... But do like the 26k. If you recall, I had one for a bit. sort of regret I sold it - but then again, I do prefer the 1950's case. Thanks guys, I appreciate the suggestions, keep firing them out!

Go for something different.
Here is my favourite, the PAM98 42mm, dual crown, GMT wheel above the 6, alarm, centre second hand. It's Panerai, without being too Panerai.

Just made a suggestion since you posted that you were open to them, Greg. Actually not bored with it at all. The 251 a beautiful watch and fits nicely into my collection since I like to have one Panerai with a white dial. |

212 is worth a look if you don't like base. No date though.
