Thoughts on Cartier

So, I'm thinking about adding a nice Roadster to my collection for my (dress watch). Anyone ever own this piece or have any kind of feedback about Cartier's watches?

Thanks all!

The roadster is a nice looking watch with a bad resell value. If you want one i suggest you go gray market or else preloved.

SS or Gold? I think that Cartier, as they expand their "inhouse" movements, has better options. Having said that, the Roadster is a great design and as Lorenzo stated you need to look for preowned to get the best bang for your buck.

I have a Roadster XL Chronograph. Great watch and the ability to switch from bracelet to strap in seconds is extremely handy. I have several staps in different colors and Cartier boutiques carry them in every color imaginable. Possibly the most versatile watch out there...

I have rose gold santos 100 L and EX yellow gold tank americane and I love both. They are very dressy watches, I get way more compliments on Cartier watches when I wear them with the suite than Rolexes. ROlex is sportier watch. Actually Cartier XL yellow gold tank Americane is my favorite dress watch.

Not a watch but a piece of jewelry. I would only get a Santos 100 in SS or Rose Gold.

Personally I love Cartier - stylish, classy, elegant. Would have bought myself a Santos but wanted the "bling" of a Rolex diamond dial. Cartier will be my next watch. You will save a lot by buying pre owned.

funny you like this watch brandon I really wanted one for a long time. I am so happy i never got it though. There is something about buying a watch from a jeweler that bothers me. I want to buy a watch that is made by a watch company not a jewelery company those are my .02

I haven't really looked in to Cartier. The Santos is the only one I know.

I got my wife a Tank Francaise a few years ago. I think it is very classy (funny I created a thread with its picture a couple hours back). She keeps it on 24/7, It barely came off since she got it... not a single problem.

Got my wife a Tank Francaise TT automatic and a Balon Bleu quartz. She just loves cartier and said that their new Calibre model would look good on me. Haven't tried it on so I don't know.

My mom and my sisters also love Cartier, having bought their share of Santos, Pasha and Roadster models, they all still wear them with no problems whatsoever.

So, basically, as a brand, you can't fault them. They have great designs and a great history so it really just depends on how good it looks on you. If it sings to you while it's on your wrist, go for it!

Cartier has their own movements in some of their watches so they are just as much a watchmaker as they are a jeweler

Have to agree with you here. The way I understand it, Cartier is one of the oldest in the game.

I'm thinking the Roadster would be a great dress watch. Rolex is still every day wear by far for me.

Carter is good stuff David! Not Rolex, but Cartier is up there and have been watch making for a very long time. Correct if I'm wrong fellow WIS, but Cartier is one of the oldest watchmakers of the group.

Just thinking dress watch. Rolex is on 99% of the time. Haha

Cartier is a top notch quality product and company.
They have been at it a LONG time!

They have some really great designs and are expanding their
line to gain more interest as we speak!

All high end watch brands are jewelry. There is no other way of justifying such prices.

Cartier was the inventor of the wristwatch!

Honestly, Cartier is not getting enough respect for their place in watch history. The reason is that a bunch of marketers took over and moved their watches into the bling/jewelry segment, but they seem to be turning that around.

High end watch brands are considered timepieces not jewelry, unless they are fitted with diamonds and precious stones all over.

Patek is the inventor of the wristwatch not Cartier.

The wristwatch was invented by Patek Philippe at the end of the 19th century. At the time, it was considered a woman's accessory. It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the Brazilian inventor Alberto Santos-Dumont, who had difficulty checking the time while in his first aircraft (Dumont was working on the invention of the aeroplane), asked his friend Louis Cartier for a watch he could use more easily. Cartier gave him a leather-band wristwatch from which Dumont never separated.

A G-shock keeps beter timke than any mechanical movement. The word timepiece is imo the same as functional jewelry. There is no other justification for the +k priece difference regardless of weather the watch is gem incrusted or not.

Hence my choice of the word "wristwatch."

I'd pass on the Roadster and get a Calibre with the in house movement.

You should get a G-Shock instead of your Datejust!! Perhaps Casio can teach Patek some stuff around accuracy!!!

I think Cartier gets the respect it earned. They invented the wristwatch and then didn't make a movement until recently. Now they want to develop more watchmaking credibility. They are decades behind most of the other name brands.

Nothing but HUGE respect for the brand, they make extremely quality watches and their design, although maybe too dressy for my taste, is proven to be timeless.
I think that you can`t miss with Cartier!

Cartier was definitely a watchmatcher when the founder was around. They started the mens wristwatch industry with the Santos. Back then, wristwatches were for women. Men would get laughed at wearing a wristwatch. They changed that and the rest is history. When the investors came in, I think they stopped focusing on the watches and more on the jewellery side. Think they are now also focusing on the watches.

I like the Cartier Roadster XL, and if I could afford it I would get the 18K YG Santos XL.
