Hi guys,

I think this one's been done before, but probably in a different way. This time you have the option to choose which you think is the best SS watch in the Rolex sports line-up!!

Although I still consider the GMT-II the most practical of the lot, I would place my vote on the SS Sub-date 16610 as being the icon in the sports line-up. That is one watch that just screams out ROLEX at you!

Which way would you vote....with comments please!

Hey JJ,

Tough one when you have a GMT Master II,but I voted for the Submariner.

I like the look and the simple elegance of the 16610.Also very high on the list was the Sub no date as I have loved this watch from day one.(If only it had an SEL bracelet,I would have voted for it and I would be wearing it as I type this.

Well, you have only done this a 1000 times

but I forgive you because the subject is so captivating.

I voted for the 16610. I've owned that watch and for me it is a great incarnation of the BEST sportswatch ever created, bar none.

It is the mould all other sportswatches are created after. Just take a look at that beautiful Omega you so heartlessly ditched. It oozes Sub all over. But the 16610 still has its flaws, mainly in the bracelet department.

Rolex could do much better than this.

I have to say the Sub date is just a classic and even though I agree with JJ that the GMT is the most practical, a collection w/o a Sub is just well, naked IMO. Can you imagine the waiting lists if Subs were as scarce as Daytonas?

I voted 16610 as it is a classic watch, although I wanted to say the YM, I read JJ's post and it clearly said SS model. Well JJ, my YM is SS/PLT so I guess it should not really be an option on there.

I'm going to buck the trend here and vote for the SD. The Rolex sports line primarily says tough, and nothing says that more clearly than the SD.

Well the Sub has got to be the classic Rolex,so thats my vote,but
prefer the SD, have both but SD gets the most wrist time.

Hey Don, glad to see you stop by pal!! Hopefully you can frequent this place, need a few more people around here that appreciate a fine watch like Rolex or Panerai or Panerai.

A big welcome to this place.

Guys, this is Donald Gordon, a friend of mine from Auckland. He's settled in Fiji more or less for the time being, but visits Auckland now and then. He's a lawyer by profession and we've met up once in Auckland last year. That's when he bought his 16610 Sub-date.

Thanks for making me feel welcome.

just logged in now. it gets kinda boring in fiji islands cos there is not much to do. there is only so much looking at the sea and the beach that one can do. i love it but it does get a bit boring on the weekends.

JJ has been a great friend. i truly agonized over buying a sub or sd. i guess i liked the cool writing on the back. im glad i listened to jj and got the sub as it is my first rollie.

In fiji rollies are expensive but there is a good selection. i went to the AD a week ago and they had the usual lot and a ss daytona which they had sold to a client for 16,000 fiji dollars i.e. around 9-10 grand american i believe.

i wonder what an anniversary sd would look like: kermit bezel?

Tough one. I went with the 16610. The GMT is more useful, but every day when I open my case, I usually grab the sub date. You see them so much, but they still catch my eye probably more than anything else out there.

Maybe the orange Omega catches my eye more, but that's for another reason all together....

And BTW, let me add my welcome to TRF, Don. I recall how you struggled between the Sub and the SD way back. Smartest thing you did besides getting the Sub was to get out of Auckland and away from the bald one's clutches.

Under his tutelage, he would have turned you into a major flipper. It would not have been a pretty sight.
