Favorite Boxer

I grew up loving boxing, Ali, Frazier, Ken Norton and my all-time favorite Marvin Hagler

When I was in my early 20's I meet him on several occassions when he came into a bar/nightclub that an "Italian" guy from the hood owned.

No bodyguard, no entourage, nothing, just himself. He was 100% approuchable, took the time to speak with everyone, shake hands and sign cocktail napkins. Nobdy would mess with him because he could kill you with one punch but also there would be 50 guys there that would defend him before he even got up off of his chair.

He may have been one of the most popular athletes in Boston history- Who's yours ?

We have yet another thing in common, John. My only regret is that SRL stole his championship (he admitted it himself) and the Hagler never fought again. Oh well, he went out with class, which is more then you can say for most.

Without a doubt Ingemar Johansson, the last white heavy weight champion and a dear friend of mine.

Rest in peace Ingo.

Great fighter!

Very cool that you knew him and that he was a good bloke in "real" life.

RIP

I don't have a favorite boxer, I stopped following the sport many moons ago.

When I opened the thread, I thought it was going to be about dogs. LOL

Sugar Ray Leonard has to be in the mix...... At his best he was just magical to watch in the ring. Sublime skills combined with Incredible speed of hands and mind, agility, strategy and serious heart too. Without doubt my favourite boxer of all time

Nah I never boxed. I just got the nickname Bruno the Boxerman because of my love of the dog breed.

I am a Brockton Boxer.

The boxer dog is the mascot for Brockton high school.

The Brown Bomber, Joe Louis! What a specimen he was, plus his history is incredibly interesting.

I was looking at a signed glove Sunday. Wad signed by Benn and Eubank. Think they wanted £80 / 90 for it...

I'm in awe that Julio Cesar Chavez wasn't named..

Even though his latter years could have been forgotten, his fights were incredible..

After watching a couple of Ali documentaries, Rumble in the Jungle and Thrilla in Manila, I don't view him like everyone else does. He was condescending and I am pretty sure it wasn't for show..my 2 cents

Take it from me, Ali was a very nice, humble and quiet person in real life.

Hagler was my favourite too. After that fiasco of a points decision to spice things up,as no one was going to beat him, they gave the title to SRL. Wasnt it 8 years he held that title for, brilliant boxer with a killer strike, loved him.

For me there's no doubt about it, Muhammad Ali. In his prime he was a magician in the ring.

I think he was about 40-45 (this was in 84-85).
