Thanks, Al. Never truer words written. We've given ourselves over to political correctness at the expense of common sense and both personal and civil freedoms.
Of course, this is coming from a western redneck, born and bred, so I may be a wee bit biased. James

Good post Alcan. Very sad but true.
As per the first post, I remember my Uncle telling me how back in the 1950s he and his buddies would take their .22 cal rifles to school with them, keeping them locked in their lockers or cars, and after school they would go out plinking or squirelly hunting. School violence was unheard off. Or how once when my Uncle got a new Shotgun, he took it to school to show off to several of his teachers. I still remember back in 1979, in 6th Grade, being sent to the Principals office and getting the "Paddle"! No big deal, I deserved it ( I put gum in a kid's hair!) It was the strap for me way back when, a great honking thick black one that hurt like he!!. Nothing compared to round 2 when I got home though, the school usually called my father.

Yep, I went to a private school growing up and the teachers had no qualms about administering corporal punishment when it was deserved. I never saw a teacher step out of line with it, and we were all aware of the price to be paid for being rude or doing something nasty or ignorant.

My principal once remarked that if anybody wasn't carrying a pocket knife, he/she wasn't properly dressed. Yes, his paddle had holes in it. And yes, I got it again when I got home. Yes, my first fight in school resulted in a new best friend (I don't even remember who won!). Yes, I took my .22 once and no one cared. Strange how true a really good joke can be!
Thanks, Al, enjoyed it very much!!!!!!!!!!!!
