First Omega in Space Ltd Edition... worth buying?

As an omega fan, I really hated Omega making millions of meaningless limited editions just ruining masterpieces like moonwatch.

Anyways, in this basel 2012, seems like they came up with a ltd edition that looks worth buying...

This has cal. 1861 and is a replica of the first omega that was sent to space.

So, do you guys think this is a limited edition finally worth buying and will keep its value along the way?

Whilst it does look nice, I'd be happy with the ordinary moon watch as mentioned above

Based on the pics alone I really like this one. But one the other hand its tough to beat the moon watch. I'm looking forward to trying the new one on.

Collectors value aside, I think the hands on the standard moon watch are a LOT easier to read than on this version. Just my .02

It´s not a limited edition, just numbered

I like it a lot, but don´t know if I end up buying it.
I´ll wait to see it in the steel

Some years back, I planned to build up my own "Schirra" commemorative Speedy Pro even going so far as designing a special case back:

Circumstances prevented me completing the project so I was excited to see Omega introduce this one at Basel 2012.

I am an unabashed "Speedy Nut" and immediately placed my order for the new model. Omega has been bad to make cosmetic changes to the standard model and call them Limited Editions when marketing comes up with an excuse so I have never been a fan of their "special editions".

On the other hand, "The First Speedmaster in Space" is not a standard model with a different dial and/or case back. This one requires a complete retooling to come up with a symmetrical, no crown guard case with 19mm lugs. All that remains the same is the 1861 movement. I just wish the crystal were hesalite.

This one may be the sleeper in the Omega 2012 lineup. I know that my dealer has a significant number on order.

Yes, but I have never given it a cleaning and final polish.
