1-800-flowers.com is a joke

Just wanted to give fair warning to those of you out there who may need to send a flower arrangement. I was traveling and unable to contact a my local florist to send flowers for a co-worker's funeral. I gave 1-800-flowers.com a shot, paying $200 for a standing arrangement. I offered to pay rush delivery, but they stated that since they used a local florist, next day was no problem.

Imagine my embarrassment tonight when I arrived at the service to learn that my flowers never arrived. I called customer service tonight and got a refund as well as the statement that this happens quite a bit when the local florists get busy. I was flabbergasted. So I just wanted to pass it on.

1-800-flowers.com should be renamed 1-800-screwed.com

END OF RANT

Sorry to hear about that John, I'm glad to know you got your money back but it's unfortunate that you couldn't have your flowers.

They had an episode in Undercover Boss. Your local branch was probably screwed up.

OR, they realized that you probably couldnt tell since there will be many flowers anyways and just wanted to skip out for extra money. Imagine that...

I hear ya. I've used them twice... both times were a bust and I got my money back but I'll never use them again.

Even worse that your experience was for a funeral

Perhaps you can donate an equal sum to a charity of the family's choice.

I just re-read the OP's post and got what those flowers were actually for, that makes things quite worse indeed.

Sorry about your co-worker John.

What a terrible experience and even worse is the explanation they gave. It happens often when the florist gets busy. What the hell kind of business model is that? Thanks for the heads up I won't ever use them.

No excuse for that kind of service. What has happened to the service industry in general? Seems it's getting more and more difficult to get good service anywhere these days. Even Lexus service has gone to crap.

Never again. You are better just calling the local florists yourselves. These places are nothing but a middleman who skim off the top.

You pay $200 for an arragement, the local florist gets $100.

That's terrible. I've had good luck with them in the past. Used them short notice when I've forgotten special occasions. I've been lucky and always pretty satisfied as well as the recipient. They are cheaper than our florists intown too. Still the fact that happened is no way excusable. Glad they tried to fix it though. That sounds like more the local florists issue. Maybe they will find someone else to contract with.

Had a similar experience with FTD. Flowers to be delivered on Mother's Day were delivered THREE days after the arranged date. All after paying a premium to have them delivered on that Mother's Day. I was overseas at the time and didn't get chance to talk to my mother that day. I had no idea they weren't delivered. I found out after a slightly passive aggressive email the day following the missed delivery (she of course assumed that I had forgotten, which is reasonable). Sh*t happens, but one would think they would have their ducks all lined up for days like that. Obviously got my money back.

Ever since, if I have 10 minutes to do research I call a local florist in whatever city I need an arrangement delivered directly and transact that way.

I've found the best way to send flowers for a funeral is to call the funeral home as they all have a local contact for flower arrangements. Seems like I've been sending many arrangements lately.
