Favorite Aquanaut in Category
A thread to discuss the merits of those Aquanauts we like the best.
Remember there are no winners and there certainly are no losers. Just a discussion of which Aquanauts we like and why. Pictures are a must whenever possible, remember it's awfully hard to discuss the beauty of something without a picture. From the Patek Phillipe website: Aquanaut The perfect dress sports watch The Patek Philippe Aquanaut, launched in 1997, is a model of casual elegance that combines technical perfection with uncompromising performance and imaginative creativity in design. Its fascinating appeal originates from a surprisingly modern form with a gently rounded octagonal shape. The surface structure of the superbly finished landmark dial reflects the attractive texture of the strap. The complex construction of the case is underscored by the screw-down crown for extra protection on the wrist of active people. The “Tropical” strap, made of a high-tech composite, is soft, comfortable, resistant and hypoallergenic.

Well that's a no brainer to me, the 5167R without any hesitation!

I could be bias but:
Although the 5167R is a gorgeous looking watch I like the 5167/1A a bit more. The reason I like the 5167/1A is a bit more is because this watch actualy disapears on your wrist when wearing it. That is until you need it or want to stare at it. I'm afraid the 5167R might not do that as well because of the added weight of the gold. Besides I think I like the black color abit more than the RG. The rose gold version with the brown dial is ridiculously attractive in person but I'm not a person that would spend that type of money on a watch with a simple date and second hand complication.

I like the current Aquanaut very much except the one with two time zone. I did consider the 5167R and decide against it. It is very comfortable and looks gorgeous. However, I think it looks even better in SS. If my wrist is a bit bigger, I will pick the 5167 with the steel bracelet.
I must confess I do not like the older Aquanaut. |

This would be my vote...I've really enjoyed this watch for the three or four years I've had it and use it more than I do my Nautilus. I think because of the Rubber strap vs the Leather one, I can just muck around without having to take it off.
I tend to wear gold more than I do SS or at least a TT. The only SS watch I have is my 1950 Flyback Rattrapante. All others are TT or gold. I looked at the white gold version of the Aquanaut (with the almost purpley strap)...but that was actually quite hideous. Glad, they have stuck to SS and Gold... |
