Define vintage?

Just curious, how old does a watch have to be to be considered vintage? Is it different than a car? Silverware? etc?

Four digit references, gilt or matte dial, plexi, patina, light bracelets, faded bezels, non-quick set.

Nobody on this forum can help you identify it.

Just kidding. I have read in several blogs that it's the crystal material. But will that apply 25 or 50 years from now?

You mention cars and silverware. How about the English language? Shakespeare is considered modern now, but what about 250 years hence? What follows modern and after that?

Thanks for posing the question.

Plexi. Lugs. Matte or gilt dial. Exception the GMT or sub transition pieces. I think. Rich

To be considered vintage, will be at 25 years old.

I'd say at least 30 years old. Anything made before 1982 which happens to almost coincide with when the reference numbers were added an additional digit and plexi was replaced by sapphire.

We should pin this thread as I had the same question regarding the definition of vintage when I joined the forum.

All vintages have to have lug holes on the case.

This is a reoccurring topic here. We were about a month overdue for this topic to be posted again!

A 16600 is not a vintage watch. Come on! Fitted with a sapphire crystal couldn't be less vintage.

it's out of Production. For the next Generation this will be a Vintage Watch for sure :)

edit: and don't think about your own age (like me)

One question not address is vintage Vs. collectable.
Everything here is true 25 years plus, plexi, four model numbers(1675).
But some of the newer models while not vintage have vintage status in some WIS minds.
Zenith Daytona Fat Lady etc.

Deep down, I know it's not truly vintage, but the Patina on my L serial 16610 really is a nice medium in my mind. The Patina does it for me

i would call any piece over 25 years old to be vintage.
