What are the chances of a Ceramic Daytona SS at Basel 2013?

I've got my sights set on a black dial SS Daytona 116520. However as days go by i'm more inclined to wait and see if Rolex will introduce the long rumored ceramic daytona in SS at the upcoming basel fair. What are the chances that there won't be an update/new SS daytona in the not so distant future? On the other hand I can already predict another mad rush and "oh there's a xxx years of wait list", significantly higher than list premium pricing kinda thing happening when it does appear. Any thoughts?

I'd say 2014. They're probably going to do the Two tone first.

We'll have to wait for next year's Basel to find out.

I have a feeling you are going to be right Justin. Well at least we'll have a closer idea to how the all SS is gonna turn out and decide if its worth the fuss. Not a bad time to pull the trigger on the 116520.

I just picked up a white faced 116520 and had similar thoughts. in the end, I figured any SS Daytona w/ ceramic is going to be hard to come by for a number of years even if announced... which we don't know for sure. So I bought and I couldn't be happier. Plus... I have not been a fan of recent design choices by Rolex (i.e. super lugs) and so I figured that there is a very good chance I will like the current iteration better anyway.

What are they going to update on the Daytona though? A new ceramic bezel ok, but a new case? New clasp? New bracelet? I'm not so sure......

If they are going to update a daytona I would bet it would be TT first and I think the only chance would probably be the bezel IMHO

God how I wish they would add a date function

I've wondered the same thing before I got my black dial...but can't really see rolex putting a black ceramic bezel on a black dial watch. It'll look very blacked out (which is cool, but maybe not what most Rolex buyers are looking for).

Your guess of having to wait years for the new model to become available is correct imho.

Buy now and enjoy.

I believe they would not create a multi-step transition within the SS model. If the larger case, then the ceramic bezel, too, IMHO.

Will see if I get that promotion in early 2013 and conveniently see what happens by then. Can't wait to get a "crown for an achievement" lol. Watch this space ;)

Everytime Rolex releases an update on any model they increase the price. If they add date the price would be even higher.

New Ss daytona with ceramic bezel and date. how much do you think they will charge for it? right now in Canada a new SS Daytona incloude tax is 13,550 CAD. The new one I guess could be 15,550$. If they put date on it, it would be 1k to 1.5k more. 16,550$ to 17,000$ for an Stainless Steal watch?
No thanks.

No thanks.

If there were to be a date on the daytona ( which will never happen), the whole dial will look distorted and imo, very very ugly.

The daytona 39mm is meant to be worn small, not large ( Panerai).

IF they do come out with a 41-42mm model ( such as the case as the 15400st RO), it will all come down to individuals who want a bigger presence or not on their wrist.

People like Jennifer Aniston made the Daytona a great watch for female to wear. I do think it is the sexiest rolex watch to be seen on a girl's wrist, second would be the sub.

Now is the time to get that SS Daytona or a TT model..

If the TT goes ceramic; then in a couple of years the SS would be discontinued and the ceramic models will take over..

A date function would ruin the Daytona. Just look at your phone if you need to know the date.

It would not be a Daytona if they added the date. My iphone has the date anyway. Doesn't bother me. If they release a ceramic SS count on a year or 2 to get it and a price increase 1 to 2k US. Get the SS now. If they do release the ceramic put yourself on a waiting list. If you are able to get it in a couple of years you can sell the current one. I only think the black ceramic would look nice on a white face with black sub dials but then it would look like a Tudor.

I don't know- nor does anyone except Rolex-the answer to this question. I do know, however, that if you like the present model, there's no time like now to buy.

Even if a ceramic bezel is added, you are looking at 2-3 years before its available to "normal" people like us, at a cost I would guess would be nowhere near what you're going to pay today. And, the old model will be discontinued by then, most likely driving up its asking price...just look at pre ceramic subs and gmt's.

If, and I can't stress the word IF enough, Rolex decides to change the Daytona, one thing will be guaranteed: some people will not like it, and some will. There will always be someone wanting a pre-ceramic Daytona. These are just my thoughts and opinions of course. I'm just a "normal" person (with a Rolex disease)!
