Nice, thanks for posting.

What do our experts think about the websites estimates?

Thanks for sharing. Of course, each is worth what the bidders will be willing to pay on the 13th.

My sense of the values is that none of the particular Rolex items carry any special significance since none were ever owned by their namesakes personally.

The 6241 Daytona in yellow gold is high IMHO - and the 6241 stainless-steel is prolly right.

The 6036 in stainless steel is quite low IMHO and could be a surprisingly high final value.

But once the dust has settled, maybe someone can post the final values...

[edit: I was surprised to see the Rolex Daytona model (Ref. 116520) presented to auto racer Scooter Gabel after his win at the 2007 24-Hour Rolex Race is on the list. It was extensively discussed here when Scooter eBayed it (yes, it is real) and he turned down my offer for a friend's offer - will like to see how that one goes...]

Actually the gold 6241 which is as rare as it gets let alone in that condition should go higher and is worth $150-160K.

PS. SS PN also should go higher--probably $80K or so. However estimates are usually low so the only true thing that matters is the hammer price!

That 5510 should end up selling for a lot more than 25-40k as well

I would not recommend that particular gold PN to my collector friends.

The 5510 is very meh. Late 5513 gilt dial, ugly hands, later bezel. Not much left there, at this point. In any event, the estimate seems quite generous, given all this.

Michael,
I certainly wouldn't recommend any watch either that I haven't inspected in person from an auction. I do know if it is truly mint and pristine like one coming from someone like yourself or another trusted person--the price would be $150-160K not $75-125K. From the picture it looks nice but again without seeing in person--who knows?? Cheers,

On 9/12 2010 Ebay selling Rolex Submariner 5510 for USD 66.100.00 owner of the clock had not used it in years, needed money for Christmas gifts. He bought it on the 50's, from a friend for $ 70. Used it for a few years also put it away. He got a shock when he saw the price rise also finally stopping at $ 66,100.

It was discussed (and we all followed the auction) endlessly here on the forum back then.

great story... but in fine arts this happens all the time. paintings found in drawers. this is part of the value of these pieces... they were often abused and misplaced. harry

There are specific reasons why I wouldn't recommend that particular gold Paul Newman watch to any collector whom I like.

Michael, understood and nothing more needs to be said on that example. I know a true mint example will cost $160K or so. To me it is why I only would buy from a trusted seller.

FWIW Antiquorum also managed to flog a non-running (undisclosed to the public) Zenith Luna-Luxe and a Neptune Cloisonne dial Seamaster with a fake dial so bad it looked like a 10 year old painted it. All in all a good auction for them :\

What are the thoughts of the forum on the tri color 6239?

Other than not having the original bracelet it looks like a good example but maybe I am missing something. This is my grail watch.

I can tell you from my friend who examined it that it was a fair example and far from mint. The lume was dark and some chipped as well. If it were pristine it would have clearly fetched a good deal more. Cheers,

Conner - thank you. Based on the condition is that price fair to you? Do service papers add value? Reason for questions is I am in market for PN. Thanks again for help as I am still learning.

To me one is far better off spending more money and buying mint example. Nothing replaces quality in vintage world and eventually flawed examples will drive one crazy--especially when you use a loupe!

PS. Who is Conner?

Cheers,
Ken aka Connor
