1956 Rolex GMT Master

Currently in Montreal till Friday, downtown.

I'm looking for a replacement bezel for GMT master.

Does anyone know of a good reputable Rolex parts dealer in Montreal?

You could try stopping by the local AD to see if they have any bezels. IIRC it's Chateau d'Ivoire.

Unless the OP has a typo ... getting a bezel for a 1956 GMT will be awfully tough, especially at an AD. I'd actually say impossible. I believe the insert is Bakelite for that year.

Don't go to AD, they will laugh at you. If you can find a usable bakelite bezel for under $5K (in ANY condition) that's great. Near mint bezels, and there might only be a couple available in the world, would set you back $20K+

oh that's entering the world of bakelite and serious vintage

last one i saw was in near mint condition and from memory the tag was about £8K

No, he can get a replacement aluminum bezel instead of bakelite. In fact, 6542s were recalled in 1959-60 (I think) for just this reason to reduce the risk of radioactivity (not all were switched out, of course). I am not sure, however, whether it's the same replacement as for a 1675 (someone else please help here).

Just get an aluminum bezel and pop it on the watch.

Sadly, a few 6542's have been parted out in recent times so bits do come up for sale. You just have to be patient (and a bit lucky).
A few bezels and bakelite inserts have hit the market over the past 2 years.

I'm not sure where the price sits for bezels but think big dollars for a bakelite insert in any condition (even broken).
Andrew Shear sold a very nice bakelite insert (without bezel) through eBay in October 2012.
It fetched ....... sit down for this ....... a whopping $ 20,100 !

I am still waiting for an original insert for my 2* 6542 in which one has a new old stock gilt dial in mint condition and another with service dial.
