lost sub

many years ago i was just finishing second deep dive of the day (about 35m i think), after a safety stop i surfaced to the ladder to find one of the other divers in total panic...
He, d been mucking about on the boat and had dived in off the back of the only to surface minus his stainless steel sub mariner.
The boat was anchored on a pinnacle and all around was deep 40+ m. After instructing someone to throw a weighted bouy off the back, roughly where the y thought it might be ,i agreed to go down and have a look. I was pretty low on air but i was the only diver that day with a computer(it was about 15 yrs ago)
I dropped down to bottom , about 40m with about 2m viz, i had about 2 or 3 mins bottom time, and swam in a circle abut the line when in cam e to view the watch with a busted strap.
After a slow ascent the first thing to braek the surface was my right hand holding the watch to one very happy guy.
That night i was treated to a bottle of whisky and many beers(dont think i bought one) and next had a massive hang over.

Wow, great story. You have to wonder how many Rolex's are lying at the bottom of the oceans.

Mate, great story, if it was me, I think I would send you a bottle of your favourite on the Anniversary, not many Subs have seen the bottom of an ocean.

That is cool - great thinking about the weighted marker. You must have been the hero for many years as the story was recounted by all on board.

Growing up as kids in MIA my brothers and I would free-dive for half dollars thrown off our boat by my Dad and uncles. It was just a way to incent us to gain greater depths, bottom times, and swim distances on a single breath. Of course much shallower, like 10-30', but back then 50¢ was a week's allowance.

Two years ago while boating on lake St. Clair, anchored on a sandy sand bar there were five 30' to 50' boats tied togeter having a party. One boat even had a stripper pole that was being used by 20 some girls in very nice swim suits. That's why I have binocs on board ! lol Any way I hear a guy yelling he just lost his rolex in the water people from the party boats stated to jump in. Later I heard it was YM and it was never found. Evert time I go snorkling I go over to that location, but the water depth is 8' to 10' with so weeds. I'm not giving up!
