when sizing a watch

should there be the same amount of links per side or does the outer part of the wrist have more links?

The clasp has two folding blades that open up and expand so you can put the watch on. It is these two blades that you want to center on the wrist, not the number of links.

for me outer has 6, inner (6 o'clock side) has 4
this puts the clasp in the middle of my wrist and watch centered.

If say you have say a 13 link bracelet and that's a snug fit on wrist then the 8+5 configuration should give you a perfect centralised clasp, you want the 8 on 12 o'clock side, and 5 on 6 o'clock side.

When add or take a link off I make sure the clasp is in the middle of my wrist with the watch face centered also. I'm referring to my 14060. Also my DD that Rolex had it all uneven when I put it on.

As others have said, usually there are more links on the 12 o'clock side. Of course, there are some other variables, like the size and shape of your wrist, too.

Just do a quick search and you will find loafs of posts and indeed instructions.

Its easy...just ensure clasp centralized...dont forget the locktite.

I like to have the clasp slightly closer to the 6 side (so fewer links on the 6 side) because it puts the folding lip underneath the clasp central on the wrist which makes it more comfortable.

I have 5 on the 6 side and 6 on the 12 side and I'm using the last micro-notch of the clasp so if I want it bigger, I need to add another link. Thankfully it's perfect and I still have the easy link for those super hot days we have here in the UK.

When looking at the clasp, it looks off centre but when you look underneath, you can see the folding part is dead on:

I think Dan's comment proves the point that it can be a matter of personal preference. There is no magic number since wrist size and shape varies so much.

In the winter I can squeeze my pinky under the clasp, not so much in the summer though, again personal preference will dictate what you do. There are many who say that if the bracelet is worn loose it can accelerate wear...

I recently began wear my watch a little tighter (probably where it should have been all along). I notice that I snag, and hit it on objects much less. It took a few days to get used to, but now it feels very natural.

It also depends on your preference and occasion - my tool watches on bracelets are worn loose - real loose.

The formal dress watches on straps are worn a bit tighter to fit nicely under the cuff.

Comfortably snug for me. Less movement and pivoting of the links means less wear and bracelet stretch over the long term. When the bracelet is "quiet" on my wrist it also doesn't snag arm hairs and is therefore more comfortable. Plus, I don't like having to flop the watch head over to tell the time.

DJII: 5 links on the six o'clock side, 6 links on the twelve o'clock side
GMTIIc: 4 links on the six o'clock side, 7 links on the twelve o'clock side

I prefer the placement of the DJII clasp over that of the GMTIIc; it just sits more naturally for me. I think the claps sits more centred on the flatter part of my wrist, however the watch head sits slightly off centre (away from me). Nonetheless, this is the most comfortable position for me.
I may ask my AD to make the same adjustment on the GMTIIc.

Personal preference I say. Mine is setup equal on both sides. I find it balanced this way.
5 links on the six o'clock side
5 links on the 12 o'clock side

How do folks handle Oyster bracelet sizing in coordination with the Easylink 5 mm comfort extension link?

If sizing in the summer (hotter temperature => wrists perhaps larger), do you size with the extension link out? Then perhaps flip the link in during winter when wrists may be slightly smaller?

I like to wear mine loose. It feels uncomfortable when it's snug to a point of being annoying.

You are correct. The best way I have found is to open the clasp hold the blade or folding piece closest to the clasp let the watch hang and it should be close to the same length on both sides. That always puts the folded clasp in the middle of the back side of my wrist. Hope this helps.

On the watch I'm wearing now my Tag I have 8 links on the 12 o'clock side & 5 links on the 6 o'clock side not counting the end links. My clasp is perfectly centered on my wrist.

Dan - New to the Oyster bracelet, so testing it out for proper fit. My clasp also looks slightly off center underneath like your picture, while the folding part looks a little more centered on the wrist. I still think even the folding part may be a little off center. Personally, this bothers me a little. I may have one link moved from one side to the other, to better center the clasp. I have 4 links on the 6 o'clock side and 7 on the 12 0'clock side.

So annoying when I got my first oyster compared to the president and jubilee, for me to get a good fit.

Rule of thumb I always have less links at the 6, and with gravity and such it sits perfect. Right now my oyster putter clasp is perfectly centered but inner clasp is too low, causing all kinds of problems like the top of the clasp protruding outward. If I move a link to adjust this it becomes foolishly high on my wrist. Tomorrow I should be picking up my half link for the 6 side to solve all of this I hope!
