Hey, I'm planning to take a cruse trip and go swimming, But i never actually went swimming in one of my Rolex's only got hands and feet wetwet all the time. I wanted to wear one of my favorite vintage Rolex watches "68 Rolex GMT Master 1675 pepsi insert. Last serviced in 11/2006. Was always afraid to swim in a vintage Rolex so was wondering if it's ok or not. Thanks

2006, i would recommend a service before ; or at least pressure testing. Under 7 years after last service, no problem.

Get it water resistance checked before you go and you'll be fine.

I figured i should get it pressure tested, if I'm too nervous i might just wear a newer model watch, but that would actually defeat the purpose cause all my buddies will wear there vintage watches and i would be the oddball. Nerve-recking.lol

Good luck...not sure about the pressure to do something sounds you are nervous about doing ' because your mates are' but whatever...good luck.

Have the watch pressure checked first and if it passes then OK for a swim. Then time for a post-cruise service to remove all that pesky Caribbean Island beach sand!

Check the WR first being it hasn't been serviced since 06'.
I wouldn't chance it, especially with a nice vintage piece.

Meaning with a NATO - after a spring bar failure, the watch will still be on your wrist versus the bottom of the ocean.

Not sure I'd wear a nice vintage Rolex GMT to go swimming, even after a pressure test. You'd probably be fine, but why take a chance with a 45-year-old watch. I don't baby my vintage watches, but for swimming I'd wear a modern piece or just a G-Shock.

I'm on the fence on this. I agree with the above on getting it checked. But wearing a vintage watch....it's not like you can just replace it at your local Rolex AD....

I ruined a perfectly good GMT (first edition) by taking it in the water with a loose crown. Water should be no problem with the crown screwed down tight but ... . Anyway, I now have an el cheapo or two for swimming.

Personally, if i were you i would simply buy a cheap beater watch and use that for swimming. Even if you do end up having the 1675 pressure tested and it ends up passing i still wouldnt risk a nice crisp vintage piece like that by taking it into water. Especially salt water.

If it's pressure checked, I wouldn't think twice about it, even with a vintage piece, but that's me. I'm of the thought that life is too short with sudden ends sometimes to worry about the likelihood of a problem if you've had it pressure checked.

On the other hand, get it pressure checked, but get a new hulk because you have a good excuse saying you don't want to take unnecessary risks with a vintage piece and that's why you just HAD to get the hulk...

Either way, wear A Rolex and enjoy yourself free of worry!

I wear my day date in the hot tub, shower, ocean, etc because its been pressure checked and it's water resistant far more than any other watch I own.

I won't wear the watch where the water is too deep to find it if it comes off my wrist, even though I have the watch insured. Just me, though...
