Calatrava 5227

Good morning,
Does anyone have a clue when the new Calatrava will be released/available?. Love it and in Montreal not too many places to get one.
Tks

I asked this same question at the Tiffany Patek AD in New York. They said in the Fall time frame but already a waiting list. Probably September but they won't know exact date till closer to that time.

The per-announced MSRP for the piece was eye popping! North of $35k if I remember correctly. I love the new "officer" case, but at that price I will likely stick with my 5127.

seems a bit steep just for the officer style case, but who knows what that invisible hingle could have cost them in R&D

Quite a price for a Calatrava.

Brian, I think that you have given yourself, some excellent advice.

The 5127 is a superb Patek.

5227 is priced exactly as the officer case 5153, which was on the market for several years now and no one reacted to its pricing as much as people do with 5227.

5205 AC now retails for $49,500 in the good old US of A so still a bit of a steep difference versus the $35 to $37K for this 5227.....

But pricing might be different given where you are located?

the 5205s can be found for $40k/£26k if you look around...

That is way too steep for me for a "basic" Calatrava. Never really understood the utility of the officer's case anyway. Who needs a door to cover up the view of the movement?

But utility is a tough subject...

... especially with these pieces. Who needs a moon phase, really?

Different watchmaker, but check out the officer's case for this Vacheron perpetual calendar chrono. MmM, MmM, MmM. Totally useless? Perhaps. But I love it anyway.

I agree totally. Does this mean that Patek will be phasing out the 5127?

Yes, according to the Tiffany Patek AD in New York a few days ago, the 5127 has been discontinued but some confusion around this as 5127 is still in AD's catalogs.

I assume 5127 will be gone from the catalog by the new year as well as several other models.

As classy as the 5227 is.. If for $5k or so I can get a 5205 in gold.. Then that is what I will go for

R.J. -- this was exactly my thought. I was initially looking for the 5127 and my heart sank a little when AD emailed that she would not be able to place an order for the 5127. So now I'm on the wait list to see the 5227. Hopefully I will like the new look of the 2013 model.

5227 is here!

The 5227G arrived this week. Till the very last minute I remained torn between sourcing a pre-owned 5127G vs. pulling the trigger on the 5227 but ultimately decided on the latter not because of the hinge (I intend to keep it on the wrist) but because of the slightly updated case shape. Still feeling the sting of the MSRP, which is a 'little' high as many have pointed out given the lack of complications beyond a date, but I hope I will grow to enjoy it in spite of the MSRP. The dial is a warm deep ivory and works nicely with the hands. I opted for a matte brown strap (instead of glossy black) for a more subdued look. Apologies for the bad iPhone snap!

Price aside, it is a gorgeous piece! Although the wallet may be stinging a little now, just know that you have purchased a timeless family heirloom that will be passed down from generation to generation. Your great, great grandchildren will love you for it! Wear it in good health!

Glad to hear that your journey is complete!
The high price will be long forgotten over the many years of enjoyment that watch brings. To paraphrase an old proverb- When you buy something expensive but of great quality the only moment of regret is at the time of purchase. Something cheap and of lesser quality will only afford happiness at the time of purchase but brings regret every day thereafter.

I'm not suggesting that either choice is cheap or that one is better than the other as I personally find both of these models terrific. Some will likely even find greater appreciation for the discontinued model although I've never really understood that particular logic. The point is you bought the one you liked best and don't look back.

Hope that these words take some of the sting from the purchase. It seems you have given this great thought and have selected a watch that suits you perfectly.

I too got a call from AD that it has arrived. 1st come 1st served basis. I've decided to spend another 10k or so and get one with a bit more complication.
To be continued

Thanks all for the kind and encouraging words.

Israguard -- I'm curious, is the one you are looking at is white, rose or yellow gold?

Hi Gstan,
The 5227 I was initially considering is in yellow gold.

Congratulations GStan. Beautiful watch. If I had not inherited the genetic mutation for puny wrists I would certainly be on the lookout for the 5227. I love my 5127 and really appreciate the refinement on the 5227.
