"bling" Rolexes

Am I the only person that thinks their ridiculously tacky? if your going to have a rolex you dont need to go over the top by ruining a wonderfull time piece with jewels.

for instance. That was Saddam Husseins watch incidently.

I cringe everytime someone uses the word 'bling,' much like my reaction to the actual watches.

I agree! Too much bling is just gross. Save $$ and just carry a billboard that says " look at my ROLEX"

agreed but due to lack of anything better to say I had to use it.

I once saw a Rolex with either a picture of Saddam, and Iraq flag or Saudi flag on the face. Terrible condition but I cant remember which one it was.

I have to agree it's a matter of taste. Some have it, others don't.

Seriously, Why should anybody be offended with what others wear. My motto is if it isn't hurting anyone else, no foul. I agree that many of these blinged out watches aren't my taste but there are plenty here who think my Serti dialed Sub is too much. As they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Coulda bought some pretty serious plastic surgery for the cost of those jewels.
The surgery in the right place would eliminate the need for such a substitute.

i think it's a bit much, but i do not mind watches with large diamond bezels... I don't think diamonds ruin anything, I think it's a matter of taste... what ever you like is not the wrong choice. Someone should not hold themselves back from something they like just because it is too flashy, just to "blend in more" If blentley was just a car or Rolex was just a watch, I don't think there would be forums for these things.. People will buy a ferrari to go fast in style and quality. Even the most standard Rolex will catch someones eye who doesnt even care or know much about watches, which goes to say Rolex is flashy period. just my 2 cents

I agree entirely. It says something about the obscene excesses within our society that there is actually a market for these things. I have huge respect for people who are successful and wealthy as a result of their (lawful) intellect/labours, but for any individual to flaunt their wealth in this excessive way, says a lot to me about the person, their taste and their inner security.

I feel that it is a pity that Rolex defaces fine watches in pandering to this market. Although, having said all that, I suppose that many would argue that adding the jewels/bling is only one step on from having a gold watch, and I have always fancied a gold DD!!!

Stan.

Stan, You have a very valid point, but on the other hand is it so hard to believe that their might be 1 or 2 people out there who might like this watch for a reason other than it just being flashy?

The Fact that rolex offer's all watches in any style for any type of person is great. different strokes for different folks.. I think most people who drive bentleys and wear rolex's like to be a bit flashy, infact I think all people do in one way or another.. the only people who don't like attention are drug dealers! haha

JJ, I cannot afford a shirt at this point. I spent all my money on rolex's... I even had to sell my free rolex shirt that my AD gave to me as a gift.

Signalling can be important. For example, if you are a lawyer who takes fees on contingency, an investment manager or a theatrical, literary or sports agent, the fact that you have money indicates that you make money for your clients.

Also, in hip-hop culture, that kind of thing is fashionable.

For some people who are born into a life of leisure, talking about money or displaying ostentatious wealth is crass. But if you are a hedge fund manager, or a Wall Street trader, talking about money is what you do for a living, and when you are working eighty hours a week, you wind up feeling a lot less demure about buying whatever consumer goods strike your fancy.

Rolex is certainly the brand in position to pump up the bling factor, because the movements are thick, the cases are thick, and the bracelets are big. You're already in the neighborhood when you buy any Day-Date/President. To some extent, fashion dictates that a dress watch should not be ostentatious, and in my opinion, "haute-horology" and "grand complications" have evolved as a means of fitting that aesthetic while still exhibiting a massive wealth expenditure on the wrist, which is recognized by many people you'd want to recognize it, even if it lacks the bling factor of diamonds.

Personally, I think putting stones on the bracelet and the lugs is excessive, but if it's to your taste, I think that diamonds on the bezel and the dial look really good on a yellow-gold watch. I think the diamond paved dials are sort of inappropriate on a man's watch.
