Rolex Newb in San Francisco

Hey All,

Brand New RF member here.
I've been using forums for all sorts of interests: Motorcycles, Cars, Cycling, Computer Tech, etc. And now that I'm starting to get into watches it was about time I joined RF.com.

Usually there's a "Introduce Yourself" or "Welcome" Thread (Mods?) where you can post, but I didn't see that anywhere. So I'll say "Hi" here.

I'm starting my collection after a pretty successful year in my career, and have been looking at all the standard cornerstone watches, Speedmaster, Submariner, El Primero, Daytona. Right now I'm lusting after the 116520 Daytona (Stainless, Black) and I'm reading up as much as I can. This forum has already become a solid resource. I've read several of the tech and reference articles.

If you guys have any recommended reading as I hunt for the right Daytona, please let me know. My budget is 8-12k for a pre-owned example. I'll be visiting Jacek (on RF.com) next week to see what's doable locally.

All input is welcome!

This thread had almost 2000 views in 3 months and only one response today? Interesting. Welcome op, if you're still around. There is no right or wrong daytona. But I'd prefer a sub lacking the date. Good luck

Welcome Brad. Sorry for the late replies. You might have better luck and responses posting in the Rolex section.

Welcome to TRF Brad !
The daytona was also my first really good watch (back in 1999). I still have it, so that means I am still pretty happy with it. And ofcourse I added several others to the collection. I am a watchfreak after all

Silicon Valley guy here used to live in east bay, GO BEARS..
I too am new to RF. I just picked up a brand new GMT II SS, love this little guy, my new crime partner.

Gyges, there's a guy that had a posting online I spoke with, he bought a Daytona SS black dial from Tourneau Dec.2013 and was looking to sell for 10.5k, he was the most thorough person with the product. He included the original receipt, hang tag with matching serial numbers, box, etc,. He was willing to meet at the AD and ROLEX service center in Sf. Let me know if you are interested and I will look for the link.

Welcome from SF! If you haven't purchased yet, I have seen a ss daytona for less than 8k on the FS thread here.

Welcome. I'm also looking at Daytonas and deciding what I want to spend for a precious metal one, or as an interim, a SS model. So enjoy the hunt.
