Tudor submariner for restoration
Hi everyone, I recently acquired this Tudor Submariner 9728.
Overall it's not it too bad condition and has original paper work. The bracelet has one broken link. The crystal is chipped and scratched. And the crown wheel is broken, but the movement does work after some slight movement. Today I sent the watch away for repair and restoration, and will hopefully have it back within 3/4 months. What does everyone think? |

Wow that dial is amazing. Beautiful watch. Where did you find it? Would love to hear the story of the watch and see a picture with the certificate.
I will say I've never seen solid end links on that model |

Nice one mate .....
Looks like a real survivor and certainly worthy of a freshen up. Lovely patina to the dial IMHO.
If you haven't already done so, perhaps just check in with your watchmaker about their plans for the case. Easy for an overly-zealous watchmaker to delight the owner with a highly polished case. A clean is good .... a polish is bad. An unsympathetic polish can instantly knock some serious value off a vintage Rolex or Tudor case. Might be teaching you to suck eggs but just thought I'd check |

Well I found the watch in a local pawn brokers and was immediately interested in it, so I took the serial number and model number and done a bit of research. Spoke to rolex and the watch was sold in my town at a local shop that still exists. It has been back to rolex 3 times in its life for service and has has the same owner from new until at least 2007, which is the last time there is record of the watch until now. Unfortunately rolex said they couldn't service or repair the watch because it is over 30years old, but put me in contact with a vintage rolex/Tudor watch restorer in London which they recommend, called Steven hale watch restoration. I then went and purchased the watch. Then spoke to SHWR and emailed them pictures and are confident of a full repair and restoration of the watch. They have recommended for the bezel and case only to be cleaned and maybe a slight polish on the bracelet, upon further inspection once they have inspected the watch.
I will keep everyone updated on this watch. |

IMO don't polish at all. Don't remove the crystal either.
Simply internal refresh and bracelet pins. Don't turn a survivor into a restoration project. There are less and less of these in untouched condition. You'll appreciate my advice in the future, especially if you Hold her for awhile. |

personally i would service the movement, replace the crystal, lightly polish the case (Only if they know what there doing) and i would source a 93150 with the correct end links. they will fit the watch better and wont damage the inside of the lugs.
That is a very nice sub. the dial is sweet. Love chapter ring dials |

i would love to see a picture of the original paperwork. I like seeing pictures of the Tudor papers because you just dont see them often. I was very happy to get the original punched papers with my snowflake.

So what bracelet should the watch have came with? The bracelet with the watch is fully stamped with part numbers and I'm pretty sure it's not aftermarket (fake).
2 links that have ever been used. And has the one broken end link. They have quoted £350 for service with new crystal. |

93250 won't fit acrylic subs correctly. Hollow end links only. It's possible to fit aftermarket SELs to a real bracelet though a lot of work. It is easier to put a genuine clasp on an aftermarket bracelet though as I've done it before. This was an aftermarket SEL bracelet I used.

That's a SWEET one. Movement service, swap crystal and NOTHING else. Bracelet should be replaced though as not corresponding to the watch.

It looks to be a nice piece.
I'm just a bit unsure about the hour hand, I may be wrong but it looks like a replacement. Any comments on this, always keen to be educated, |

I would love to find something just like it! Maybe even a Tudor DD or just a date model. Anything Tudor that's right priced really. Love your watch and can't wait to see it all spiffed up. Congrats
