My new GMT II bracelet squeaks

Just wondering if this is a normal occurence. It doesn't squeak all the time, but when I shake my wrist to reset the position of the watch it is pretty noticeable. Is there anything I can do about it or is it just part of owning a Rolex?

Welcome to TRF, Mike!

Give the bracelet some more time. The squeaking will eventually end by normal wear.

I have a SS GMT ll ceramic and the bracelet is silent. Maybe some special lube between the links?

Mine has a little squeak in it, around the clasp. It's only noticeable when the watch is off my wrist and I am messing with the band.

Offer the bracelet a little cheese, that might shut it up.

I've had many rolex watches do that and it drives me nuts.
I oil the bracelets, and it solves it just fine. Just a super light oil worked in well.

I also have a GMT IIC that squeaks when I adjust it on my wrist so you're not alone. Hopefully it's just because it's a new watch and not broken in yet.

Welcome to TRF Mike. First I've heard of this--guess I'm lucky. Maybe it needs some break in time. Hopefully Oil is not the answer. Give it some time and hopefully the links will loosen up a bit. Good luck and wear your rollie proud! =-)

When I bought my SD4000 brand-new, the bracelet squeeked for a couple weeks. Eventually, it stopped.

I sold that and purchased a new DSSD. I've had it for 4 days now. The bracelet squeeks also.

This is typical of a new watch.

With wear, eventually the squeeking will go away. The bracelet is just breaking in.

Mine did the same thing my special lube was WD40. Had it on hand so I used it and it has not squeaked since. I figure it is metal to metal why not try it? Anyhow I have cleaned it three times since.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of WD40. That will definitely stop the squeaking.

Squeaky &/or rattly bracelets (at least Oysters) seem to be a fact of Rolex life.

I find that my Sub's bracelet quietens over a few months, then when I wash it the squeak+rattle reappears. Looking at the dust & grit that washes out, I can see why Rolex figured that hollow centre links would be a better bet on tool watches.

Some would argue that oil encourages dust & dirt to stick.

Cheers

Instead of Wd-40 I would use Tri-flow it's a better lubricant!!!

My bracelet seems to squeak less than the beginning, I wear it everyday.
I also noticed that it squeaks more while playing/cleaning in hands, than on whist.

...wd 40...

...works GREAT.

...remove the band from the watch one evening. Spray it down, either outdoors or in the garage over some newspaper.

...shake it back and forth and work the links back and forth, one by one. Spray it again and repeat. If there is anything in ther, it will work it's way out etc.

...I have NEVER had one squeak, but had two that were kind of "sticky" in a couple of the links.

...the WD 40 has worked for both and never had to do it again.

...almost forgot....after you have done this, lay the bracelet flat on the news paper overnight so the excess will run off. When you get up, wipe any residue off and put the band back on the watch-you should be good to go.

Stan.

I wouldn´t use WD 40. It´s too thin and will creep into places, where it doesn´t belong.

Also IMO it´s quite aggressive, I would fear for my Rolex´s seals.

But a small drop or less ( just the tip of a needle oiler, a drop so small it won´t fall off ) of a good finemechanic oil to the BRACELET should do no harm!

Be careful of any gun oil, that does "clean" or the like.

A Teflon Grease could be fine, apply to inner parts of FOLDED bracelet, just remove excess, as it attracts dirt.

( certified Gun Nut, on the way to certified Rolex/Watch nut )

Both my DJ & GMT bracelets squeeked but resolved. As said, be careful with WD40. In my experience with guns, it actually ATTRACTS moisture and it may affect you seals. I would find the squeeky link and apply a drop of non penetrating oil (3in1, Rem Oil, etc.).

same goes with Daytona 116520 with new bracelet, and also Milgauss GV. It seems like it's very common with new Rolex.
