Thoughts on this 1665 Mark IV DRSD?

After finding this watch by chance, i am super tempted to get this grail watch.

Plexi glass and crown have been replaced during a 2010 service, otherwise watch is in incredible condition and original. Top of the lugs have been polished, but the case hasn't been polished, it is free from dings or scratches, and the lugs and edges are sharp. The watch also comes with the box, papers, guarantee, and original purchase invoice from Feb 1980. Serial 5.19 mil.

Any reason i should not pursue it?

Dial looks good compared to examples on double red website. Did you find this from a private party or a trusted dealer?

Whats the asking price -

and I'd be curious what the serial number says about date of manufacture versus the date of original sale, which is well after DRSD's were no longer manufactured. Although I guess they do sit around unsold at the AD's from time to time.

If the price is right and everything else checks out it's a sharp looking DRSD. Makes me want to dig mine out and wear it again.

Better pics would be helpful. Looks like a correct mk 4 DRSD. Likely one of the last ones as it has the correct case back and a 5.19 serial. Has the correct endlinks as well. The insert may have been swapped at a service. Better pics or a conversation with the seller will tell you if the date wheel is correct.

I think the last Mark IV's were made in 1977 till the 5.2mil serial. The watch was sold by a jeweler in S-Africa in Feb 1980, so it could easily have sat around for a couple of years in the shop. I have seen the original invoice.

The seller is a semi watch dealer, and has pawn shop, and is known in the watch trade industry, but there are probably only 5 vintage watch dealers in the country, so it does not mean much... I have seen the watch myself this weekend, and it looks very clean, and all the documents and box are there. It is a bit of a time capsule watch, and although it has been worn and the dial and indexes are faded, it has certainly been very well cared for.

The ONLY thing that i am unsure about is the date wheel as it looks a bronzish/silver colour, but the seller assures me the only thing changed is the plexi glass and the crown. There are a few scratches on the insert, but even that looks original. I will ask the seller for high res pics.

More than that i am unsure, as it is the first DRSD I have looked at, so dont have a point of reference. So any input and suggestions from the DRSd community would be much appreciated

I have a weakness for this reference, but this one looks very nice to me as it is.

If you like it as much as I do, and the price is right, go for it. If you keep searching you may find a perfect safe queen in the future at the right price, but you have more chances of finding yourself in an eternal quest... and without a DRSD...

A clean looking example! If you don't buy it I will (though it might be a challenge to find out who the seller is)!

Beautiful watch from what I can see. Would love to know the asking price for the set?

looks like a great watch and set - I'd just want to see a lot more larger images first, to be sure, of course...

at first glance it looks like a good find ,,, pics arent the best , but i take it that as youve seen it in the flesh the pics are only for the forum , and not buying from pics.
