Dear TRF,

Time for another poll

Rolex 36mm DayDate WG vs Patek Philippe 5712-1a

Both are sporty/classy timepieces, I'd go for the rolex though (32k for a steel watch is hard to justify imo)

Despite the enhanced prestige, this particular Patek doesn't get my motor running; nor do the diamonds on the dial of the DD.

The Aquanaut, now that's another story.

I love the look of the 5712, but I would choose the DD between these two. Have you had the opportunity to see/handle the 5712 in person? I first tried it on a few months ago and was very surprised how thin both the case and bracelet were. The watch was a little too "elegant" for my lifestyle. I also found the clasp to be sub-par for a watch in that price range.

I tend to prefer a little more "presence" with the case/bracelet, so I would go for the DD.

Patek for me, that reference is one of my favorites. The choice wasn't easy to make though as that Day-Date is beautiful.

DD gets my vote. There are only a few Pateks that I like and the 5712 is not one of them.

This is a great but really tough question. I'm fortunate to have access to both (118239 on Oyster bracelet and 5712/1A) and would give the slightest of nods to the DD. Love the WG DD weight and fit but the PP has that "under the radar" presence. Again, for me a very tough call.

Of these 2, I pick the daydate (and I dont even care for rocks on the dial)
I would have voted for any other version of Nautilus.

That Day Date is stunning. Not a diamonds fan, but that dial is a winner regardless.

I would choose the Day-Date. I owned a Patek Calatrava (admittedly not the model of interest here) but seldom wore it and traded it for a Day-Date.

Patek for me.
Although not my 1st choice in the SS Nautilus line, I do prefer it over that DD.
Two great choices though.

I've never handled the Nautilus in person, I have however handled a Calatrava and 5170 and I was amazed by how good they look in person in comparison to pictures.

I have tried on several Rolex watches and most of them just feel the same to me, I love it that Rolex is very consistent with quality and with sticking to a core design (e.g. case/clasp and bracelet style), something that other brands don't have or just not in the same way.

But I find it interesting to see that despite this is the main Rolex forum there are still quite a lot of people that vote for patek (just like my previous polls).

I voted patek but I fancy the DD in rose gold and the 5726 over 5712, of course that would widen the price gap.

Try them both on in person several times with different shirts and make your decision only then. I really admired the PP Nautili in photos here and elsewhere, but when i actually tried several Nautilus models on, they just didn't feel right and I passed. I found the bracelet was stiff and not as comfortable as the President, and the contours of the case just didn't look right on my wrist and weren't comfortable. And I would skip the diamonds seriously...If you want diamonds go for the meteorite dial which is much more subtle. Your mileage may vary though! Enjoy your quest!

This is just a poll to see which one the people here would choose, I am too young to be able to own a watch of this caliber

I was looking at a choco DD2 and the 5711 and the DD2 is just stunning in the flesh so the DD would be my choice but only 41mm.

i'd without a doubt buy the DD...not a fan of diamonds either but that one is pretty subtle IMO...like others have stated...I could give two shits if its a PP...32k for a SS watch is pure insanity.
