Panerai Daylight - Fact vs Fiction

I am really starting to like Panerai after seeing some last week. I was discussing Panerai with another member the other night and I have a question:

Is the Panerai Daylight named after the Sylvester Stallone Movie "Daylight" or is that just coincidence?

There is nothing listed on the Panerai website that would suggest this

Thank you

Sean

Short version of the story.
While filming the movie Daylight, Stallone discovered Panerai. It was not generally sold to the public at this time. I forget the number, but he had around 250 of the watches made for his cast & crew. Panerai called the watch "Daylight".
Not 100% sure, but this watch ( or at least Daylights after this first run) have his signature on the caseback.
These things are going for over $30k now.
Sly really kicked off the Panerai "fad" or rebirth to the public.

This is what I found out after more research. Taken from the Panerai website:

"Panerai Slytech watches - 1995

In 1995, Panerai created a highly limited special edition called Slytech. "Sly" is the nickname of Sylvester Stallone, the famous Italian-American actor. Stallone, a great admirer of this watch, had requested a special edition called Submersible to use during the shooting of the underwater scenes in the movie Daylight and subsequently requested a new edition with a white dial, named Daylight, and a personalized re-edition of the Mare Nostrum. All these watches bear the actor's signature engraved on the back."

There is one currently listed for sale on a Panerai website, not the submersible nor the chrono, listed at $40k.
OUCH,
Would like to have picked one of those up 12 years ago.

Thanks for the input. I am really interested in this brand. The Panerai Daylight question was a curiosity factor. Next time I am at the AD I will look at the Submersible series PAM 00243/PAM 00024
