I would like to take this opportunity -- my 1,000th post, to say thank you.

To TRF -- the dedicated contributors, moderators, and members -- for making this community what it is.

To mark the occasion, I would like to give away a free NATO strap (20mm, lightly used black and gray 'Bond' style).

The first member to guess the 3-digit number of the LST my grandfather was on during World War II...wins the NATO shipped to CONUS.

June 6, 1944 -- my grandfather landed on Juno beach and would go on to make many more trips across the English channel, delivering troops and vehicles to the Normandy beaches.

D-Day 70th Anniversary just passed...so it seems fitting.

The only catch -- the winner, must make a public promise to hold some type of similar contest/giveaway of their own.

So please -- only guess if you are comfortable with the terms...

I was fortunate enough to visit Normandy during my travels a few years ago -- it is something to see if given to the opportunity.

Here are the cliffs at Pointe Du Hac that the U.S. Rangers had to take.

My late father-in-law took Omaha Beach and no one could ever pry a word out of his mouth about it. Think about that hard and you realize just how much we have to be grateful to those young men.

I'm not a NATO guy so I'll pass on the guess, congrats to the lucky winner.
