AP 15202 vs 15300/15400

I know this is probably a sin to even mention it, but how many of you guys prefer 15300/15400 models over the classic 15202. Regardless of the price, if all being equal and you had a choice between brand new 15202,15300 and 15400, which one would you pick.

I personally am on the fence. I tried 15202 several times and it never sang to me bad enugh. Not sure about the missing seconds hand, the thinner bracelet, no quickset date (which bothered me when I had to adjust it) and a few other issues I have with fragility, non screw-in crown and dial details. I really want to love it. Not yet. Maybe a few more tries...

I can't say I've had the pleasure of trying on a 15202 but I like the size, weight and gorgeous movement. I dislike the lack of a second hand. The 15400 would be my choice, added bonus is its so much cheaper.

I'll admit if cost was equal, I would likely take the 15202 for the movement alone.

+1. The 15202 is a rethink of a classic - the movement along makes the watch.

I agree. The movement is very nice looking and the rotor is just beautiful. Gorgeous.

My hesitation is that this same beautiful movement is more fragile and it's missing quick date function and a seconds hand.

I'm not going to lie, I love my blue 15400. I have tried on the 15202 in blue and like it as well, but it did seem a bit more delicate. I do appreciate the history and the movement on it.

I absolutely love my 15202, so that's the one for me. I didn't quite like the previous iteration as much, but the 40th anniversary version is perfect for me.

1) I don't think they are comparable maybe the 15300 vs 15400 but 15202 is a different ball game.
2) I know you placed an assumption that if the price was the same, but it is not and it's just so much which equates to around double (which to me is not a small thing), and which changes the perspective of owning one or even thinking of owning one.
3) I had a 15300 but it was always the entry level watch (along with the 15400 nowadays), 4) I actually liked the feather seconds but I realized (when wearing my Reverso) that you don't really notice that it is missing.
5) 15202 is the classic and most sought after watch here (and the grail of all grails to me and to many watch collectors out there), this classic does come with a hefty price tag but if you want to play with big league you're gonna have to pay for it.
6) The 40th anniversary is a tribute to Gerard Genta and the one watch that started it all in 1972... It's only in blue, has AP logo at the bottom and the sa,e jlc movement...
7) The waiting time is just crazy. 3-4 months is a looooooooong time to get yours shipped from Switzerland

This is my honest opinion...

Good luck and you can't go wrong with any of the three... I started with the 15300 and then got the 15202... This journey is yours and yours only. Wear it in good health.

There was also a very obvious size difference on my wrist...they're only a couple of mm apart but I found the 15400 to have more wrist presence and I thought that was important.

I didn't realize the 15202 was twice.... I just saw one in the classified for a few grand more that the 15400....?

Thanks for the response. I do understand that a few folks see 15202 on another level because of the price so that was the reason I eliminated that from the equation. To me, the difference in price is not significant enough to compromise. It is not double on retail, more like 5-6k and 15202 is actually available to purchase without any list at quite a few ADs. Not even close to what a 5711 is.

Regardless of availability or price, I want to like the watch better than 15300/15400 and at this point I am not there yet. I was just wondering if there is something that I am missing and if other folks feel similarly.

I had both 15300 and 15400 but never owned a 15202.



I was tempted to "upgrade" to a 15202 but I am not loving the 15202 as much as I would like regardless of price. Maybe I need to give it a 4th look. 😂😂😂

15400 vs 15300: I prefer the 15400's "improvements" in logo placement, white dial color (silvery), tiny marker next to the date window, colored date wheel, clasp. But I dislike the size and prefer 39mm. The 15202 is awesome but comes with a huge premium ($$$) and I don't know if I can own a watch with no seconds hand. Ahhh... 15400 has the "balance" for me.

As with all watches it is quite subjective as I believe/hope everyone would agree. If you had not actually handled the 15202 it's one thing, but since that's not the case, I think that you made the correct decision (for you) in passing on it (so far).

If it didn't overwhelm you then, I'm not sure it will ever do so (in comparison to the other two). What's the sense in getting something that doesn't really provide you the joy that should be there? If your feelings change on that, well off to the races but until/unless, why would you betray your gut/instinct? They are all beautiful watches imo and the good news is that with the different models/sizes/dial config, etc there's something for everyone.

For me, I had a 15450 before trying the 15202, thinking that it would be the best size for me. Fit and comfort wise though, the 15202 turned out to be a much better choice and supplanted the 450 for those reasons. The fact that the Jumbo was pricier didn't sit very well but rarely has "settling" for something for any reason proven to be a good decision for me . . .

I don't exactly prefer one over the other. I have both and I think they are just as nice but in different way. 15202 is more slim and proportional while 15400 is more sporty. But if force to choose, it will probably be the Jumbo by a narrow margin.

I'd go for the 5711, with the 15202 a very close second. I dont think one is necessarily better than the other, its extremely subjective. For me the 15202 compared to the 15300 or 15400 is a clear winner. On paper there's not much difference between the three but the 15202 seems to have a certain intangible quality above the other 2. The 15300 and 15400 do have their advantages though, so you cant go wrong.

If I had to choose only one between the 15202 and Patek 5711 then Patek it is. I have gone back and forth and had them as dead tie but now after months of ownership the 5711 pulls away for me. Very hard to beat!!
