AP Royal Oak 15450ST
I am new to the forums and this is my first post. I am considering buying the 37mm 15450ST. This will be my first big watch purchase and the whole process is a bit daunting. I went to go check it out and the lady tried to sway me towards the larger 15400 (41mm). She also kept referring to the 15450 as a ladies watch. I am skinny, 6ft and have a 7" wrist. I am more of a classic guy and tend to prefer smaller watches but not too small. I also feel the AP wears slightly bigger. I have a few pics but I am newbie and haven't figured out how to post yet.
My questions are: Do you think this is too small for me or men in general? Is it a ladies watch? Do any of you guys wear this model? I am just curious to get your overall thoughts. Thanks in advance. |

I say go with you gut on this one. It's a great watch and no I don't believe it's a "ladies" watch. Do you like how it looked on your wrist compared to the 41mm 15400? If so go for it. I think some here on the forum have them and maybe will post some pics. Good luck!

Also if your undecided you could try to source a 15300 which is 39mm. They are discontinued but can be found used in good condition. That's my favorite reference. (Besides the 15202 which is next level and a good deal more $$$)

7" wrist? Yep, 15450 could be a bit small, but again just a personal preference (I like larger watches).
I think one forum member has a 15450 (that I've seen in a post). Most have 15400, 15300 (discontinued) or 15202 (THE AP to have if you're looking for RO) I would recommend 15202 or Patek Naut (5711,5167) if you like smaller watches as you stated. |

15450 wears like a 39mm so OK for 7 inch wrists and thus not a woman's watch.

It's a personal choice. If it feels good to you, others esp a salesperson opinion should not matter. Buy what you like. Bear in mind not long ago there are men's watches at 34mm or smaller.

Not a woman's watch, they have their own models, 6.5 inch wrist here, if anything I think it would be too small before too large . . .

^ that's a good fit Michael. These def wear big I frankly feel if you can pull off the 15450 it's a no brainer. But, resale will be slightly lower, or so I've heard... Could be bs

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the feedback. I think I have to try them both on a few more times and see if I can find a 39mm to try. The watch looks incredible in the pics you posted. Is it possible to still get the previous version new?

Definitely not a ladies watch. I liked the 15400 fine on my 6.5" wrist but swapped for a 15300. A 7" wrist can pull of the 41mm 15400 no problem.

Thank you Tom! Here's the weird part - I didn't mind the 450 but when I tried the 15202 thin, it felt better on my wrist so I moved the 450 out . .

If you feel it looks right go for it or look at the 15400

15450 on a 7' wrist is fine. Here is mine on my 7' wrist. It is on the smaller size given current trend, but it wears large.
15400 is too large for me. 39mm is perfect. here is my 15202 for comparaison. |

Go with what you like, but make sure you buy from another salesperson, as yours has no idea what she's talking about.

7.25" wrist here and I absolutely love the way the 15300 fits at 39mm.

Great pics Sebastien. Did you have to get an extra link? I love the 39mm 15202 but they price difference is significant.

Great pics Sebastien. Did you need to get an extra link on your 15450? I really like the 39mm 15202 but the price difference is significant. Still haven't figured out how to post pics without downloading an app. Will get some pics up when I do. Thanks for the replies.

As for the 15202, i might need to remove a link. The 15202 is expensive but worth the extra saving IMO if you are already considering a 15450. Alternatively 15300 is nice too if you want a 39mm. |

go for the 15400. you'll appreciate it in the long run. I'm wearing a 41mm on a 6.5inch wrist and it looks perfectly fine.
the trend is going bigger so think about the future. u don't want to regret ur purchase later.. plus with the 15400 you get to have the amazing blue dial |

Another Wristshot
Here is mine.
I disagree to go with the 15400 just for the sake of "surfing with the trend". At the end, you should go with the one you feel comfortable with. In addition, I think that some watches are simply over-sized, compared to the wrist size and overall appearance of the person who wears that. |

I tried the 15450, 15400 and the 15202 in rose gold (no steel in stock). I absolutely love all three. I think I tend to prefer the vintage look and generally like smaller watches. That said, I think the 15450 is the one for me. I love the blue dial on the 15202 but it seems hard to get and significantly more expensive. The 15450 closes on my wrist but is a little tight. The AD is bringing an extra link in and will size it for me. Assuming it fits, I am going to buy it. What sort of discount can I realistically expect?

I got about 15% discount on the 15450 from AD but probably left some money on the table. |

I too faced the decision between a 15400 vs 15450 a couple months back. I ruled the 15300 out because of service issues I've heard of with the 3120 movement.
I have a 6.5" wrist and found the 15400 to be too large for my wrist. It definitely wears larger than 40 mm Rolexs i.e. the sub I resultantly tried on the 15450 and knew I was going to buy it immediately. Walked out with it a few minutes later, it's by far my favorite watch. I don't have any desire to add another watch to my collection now, I'm perfectly content. The dial is amazing and has definitely grown on me. In certain lighting it's white, other times it's silver. And in bright light is almost blinding - it captures the light better than any rolex ever will. BTW, I had to get a 1.5 link for this watch to fit perfectly. I will say I wish it had glide lock adjust like a sub. I think the 15400 vs 15450 debate really comes down to whichever you prefer most, not what anyone else thinks. You can't go wrong either way |

Looks great on you. Why did you rule out the 15300 ? You mention the 3120 movement as a reason, but isn't it the same movement on the 15450 ? How is timekeeping on your 15450 ? Had to send mine for servicing as it was running too fast |

Meant to say I ruled out the 15300 because it would be preowned and having read about issues with preowned ROs I wasn't looking for a service bill right off the bat.
In terms of time keeping it runs slightly fast. I've never actually measured how fast, but I'd say well within COSC regulations. It's not as accurate as my Rolex's but at the same time they're not as fun as my AP. |

Thanks for the replies. On Friday I finally pulled the trigger and bought the watch. Its incredible. Random question; I was wondering how most of you store your watches at night? I have metal night stands and don't just want to lay my watch on there because it will scratch. Any cool stands or gadgets to buy to keep my watch safe but easily accessible?
