Began shopping for my first Patek...

I've decided to add a Patek to my small collection and for some reason (mainly HL65), I can't stop thinking about the Aquanaut RG...

I have yet to see one in person. Every time I show up at an AD, it "just sold" yesterday which is getting very annoying although I'm clear on where I rank in the Patek world.

Yesterday, I went to the Wynn watch boutique in Las Vegas and yet again, the Aquanaut had just sold.

So I started looking at the Nautilus and fell in love with the 5726.

I hate to make a decision without seeing the Aquanaut but this watch was humbling. It was spectacular in every way.

What do you guys think? Completely 2 different watches I know....

For me I am not a fan of 5726 myself but of course others are. I would get a 5167R all day long over the 5726. Again taste is subjective and to each his own so if you like it go for it! At the end of the day I can't say there is such a thing as a bad Patek. Also glad I have enabled you thru my pics then I know I am doing my job! Also I will PM you where you can get your 5167R.

For a stainless steel band Naut I'd get a 5711 (if you can find one) or if you want to spend a little more, grab a 5980 (which I think is a better long term value than 5726).

Aquanaut is a great watch, but to start into Patek, you need a 5711 over 5726 or Aquanaut.

Again just my .02.

He is looking at a 5167R not SS Paul!

I think the 5167r is a lot hotter than the 5726. However, i'd take a complication over upgraded metal. So like others have said, check out the 5980a. You also get the Nautilus' wonderful bracelet.

I understand.

Think a 5711 would be better choice than 5726 or 5167R to start into Patek

Just believe a Naut on bracelet is a must over rubber or leather (this opinion is for first Patek--after that, all is game).

Again, my opinion

(PS - ANY Patek is a GREAT choice...one cannot go wrong when choosing the brand).

I would generally take a Nautilus over the Aquanaut but have never seen the RG and if I was in your position I def would first as those that have, like Ken and Ben, do rave about it.

Did you try on 5712 and 5711? 5712 is my fav SS Nautilus.

Each to their own, but what's inside is what's important to me. So a 5167 wins over a 5167R every day. I love the look of the 5167R but struggle to make the $$ work in my head. Using the same rule, a 5726 wins out over a 5167 or a 5711. So of all those mentioned I would have to say 5726 is the right answer. But prefer a bracelet. 5980 is another step up again.....

5711 Blue is the way to start in PP then go for precious metal with complication. Just my 2cents

I like the 5726 a lot, but it's gotta be on the bracelet for me.

I love the 5711... but found the dial too boring coming from a Breitling Navitimer and AP Dual Time.. I need a little bit GOING ON.. thus the 5712 SS that im looking at getting in the next few weeks time!!

If the 5726 White Dial was the same case depth as the 5712... I'd buy that in a heartbeat! :D

P.s Looking forward to joining the club!

I really like the 5726 and I give it a slight edge over the 5167r. I would buy the 5726 if it came n precious metal.

The 5726 is a beauty and love the AC complication, but I would also suggest to consider the bracelet version over the strap version if looking at the 5726.

The 5726 is also a bit thicker than the 5712 or 5167 (I think almost 3mm), so depending on what you are looking for, you may want to try on the 5712 or even the SS 5167 to compare to the 5726. It's one of the reasons I decided on the 5167R, as I preferred the thinner case (and of course because of Ken's enabling! )

The other reason is I already have a SS AP RO, so wanted something in precious metal and RG. Since the RO already have the awesome bracelet, I was okay with a rubber strap for the PP (actually preferred it), so that also tipped the scale to the 5167R for me.

I'm sure you'll have your own reasons for the one you end up deciding on, and like others have said, there really isn't a "wrong" or "bad" PP

All the best with you search and looking forward to the incoming!

I'll take 5726 white dial on bracelet with 5167r close second.

5167R is gorgeous, but, if I were in your shoes and buying my first Patek, it's not what I would go for.

5726? Yes, for sure. Beautiful watch. For me, the dial/strap/deployant go so very well together.

If a Nautilus on bracelet, for me, nothing beats the 5711.

I love the 5167R, and it's a great recommendation as an only watch or as a part of a big collection. But without knowing what you have in your stable it's impossible for me to recommend an Aquanaut over a Nautilus.

Have you tried that RG AP RO on the pic ?

but back to PP , for me the first Nautilus must be with the increadible blue dial& bracelet ,no clue why PP don t offer that for the 5726-i guess they don t want a competitor to the5712- but if you like it just grab it .btw 5726 1A worth a try too .

Thank you all for the multiple recommendations! It certainly warrants a step back and rethinking the options I have...

One thing is for sure, bracelets will always be a less preferred option over leather or rubber...it's a comfort thing for me....so I have to factor that in...

I only want to own 3-5 watches (I think you started that conceptual debate? :-) )... Right now, I have AP 15400OR (seen in the pic above), a Yachtmaster II, an IWC Pilot Little Prince.

I want to add one Patek and thinking about a JLC Duometre.

Yes I guess I am the one that propose the theory of having 3-4 watches. If I were you I would for sure skip the 5167R and the JLC and focus on a more formal Patek annual calendar (or more complicated if you like)
Unless you feel that you like to use more sporty, then the 5726 or the 5164 should work fine.

How about a 5170G-001 since you like straps. It is a chronograph. Like a Daytona to the third power.

I thought the 5170 is quite a bit pricier than the 5726 and the 5167R

I strongly prefer the 5726. love the annual calendar function over the RG of the 5167.

I'd wait until you can try on all of your options. Any Patek is the right Patek.
