Submariner LV vs. Blue Yacht Master
I’m ready to add a dash of color and wanted to get your thoughts on these two pieces… green Submariner (116610LV) and the blue dial Yacht Master (116622). I really would like to add a blue dial piece and love the YM’s cobalt blue. However, I felt the piece has a bit of bling to the overall aesthetics with a fully polished case, PCLs and the platinum bezel. The bling factor has lead me to try on the LV which has the same movement, a very handsome green dial and bezel. I do prefer the LV’s brushed top half of the case (minus the thick lugs) and bracelet that includes a glidelock clasp which is nice touch. However, I really prefer the refined case lines of the YM and the blue dial, but the LV is a very close second. Thanks in advance for reading my indecisive thoughts on these two pieces and sharing of your perspective too.

The LV is a great piece, a classic. The was the YM sits on the wrist however is quite different from the Sub, much more streamlined and I don't want to say thin, but low profile. Have you tried both of them on?

YM Blue. I never cared for the YM until I saw a blue one, totally transforms the watch, the dial is one of the nicest rolex make. I also prefer the case shape of the YM. Its not really that bling on the wrist, have almost pulled the trigger on one a couple of times before myself. You see a lot less of them in the wild too.

Very tough, these are my two fav SS watches in the ADs. I think both are "blingy" or rather eyecatching so on that basis I think you prefer the YM.

I love a blue watch but not the YM. Sub 2-tone gets my vote.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I have tried both on and do prefer the YM's profile since it feels like it will slide under cuffs with ease. I think my concerns are mostly around the amount of polish it has, which may just subside after a few days of wear.

This is a tough one. Two of the very best sports models right now. Based on your comments, it seems as if you more leaning towards the Yacht-Master. This decision should really be based on what you currently have in your collection. If you already have an Explorer, then the YM would be a great choice.
I voted for the YM.

Close call. I just tried both on and have to go LVc. The blue YM case/dial/bezel combo didn't gel as well.

In a case like this you should triple your budget and buy a smurf white gold.
If you want to add a blue dial I don't think you'd be happy with the LVc. I found the LVc doesn't go with as much and the outfits it does go with I find myself choosing my RG TT YM2 so I'm flipping for a black dial daytona. The YM blue dial is stunning but I don't think its as blingy as you might thing. Go take some pics with one on your wrist with an outfit you normally wear and see what you think.

The Yachtmaster is a silky sort of watch imo. It's a blingy Sub which Yachtsmen don't really use.
I would go LV |

If it were me Sub LVC in a heartbeat
Dial and bezel color are amazing Brushed bracelet = less obvious wear Ceramic bezel vs Platinum bezel....ceramic doesn't show scratches and abuse as easily Resale value (just in case) the LV wins here in the long run....I think? You don't have a sub! That's one rolex that should be in evey collection imho The yachtmaster is beautiful but the above are my opinions and either way good luck and you really can't go wrong as its your choice!!!! |

Tough one...I had both, flipped both....the 116613 sunburst kind of took the blingy sub place in my collection, so the LVc is longer with me...and there was just something about the shade of blue in the YM that I didn't bond with...again the sunburst blue captured my heart.
So I guess I would say neither and get a blue sunburst 116613... I'd probably go LVc between the two. |

I vote with YM in this case, especially after Dr. Tom's picture. I think the LVC is cool but I wouldn't wear it as often as a more versatile YM. Good luck.

A buddy recently got the blue dial YM and it is stunning. But I'm not big on blue for myself (more partial to green) so I went with the LV which I also think is quite fetching.

hard to choose... based on their older version in price appreciation, it would be lv. old ym1 just didnt hold value at all. but the blue dial is so beautiful...

I voted LVc but was very interested to see that it was 29 votes apiece before I tipped it to the Sub.
I think the YM is really nice and much better in person than in photos (as is usually the case), however, I the red on the dial does not sit well with me personally. IMO and that's all it is, the red puts it slightly behind for me. |

YM Blue:
1) relatively new model introduced in 2012 2) flies below the radar and is unrecognized by nearly everyone in public 3) fits easily under dress shirt cuff 4) true, the YM is not worn much by owners of yachts......but how many guys who wear a submariner actually scuba dive? To each how own. Let us know what you decide....

Some of the YMs I have seen - my wife owns one - have unsightly scratches on the bezel. Something about the platinum Bezel insert that gets scratches that really stand out.
For some reason, to my eye, scratches on bracelets are part of life and don't bother me, but that nice bezel: it would bother me. Maybe someone could weigh in on that issue. I tried both and bought LV. |

Easy LV vote for me. The YM is a nice watch but has never gelled with me.
