First real watch - $2500 budget - Maurice Laxcroix, Breitling or Omega?

I am thinking whether I should buy a brand new Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Series watch in the grey market for about $2500, or a used Omega Speedmaster/Breitling Colt II.

What do you think?

Omega Speedmaster - about $2000 used

Another Speedmaster - about $2000 used

Breitling Colt II Cronograph - about $2000 used

Or, the one I think looks the best (but I'm worried about the non-brand,
poor resale value etc):

Maurice Laxcroix Masterpiece - $2500 in grey market ($4900 retail)

Which one would you buy, and for what reason?

How good is the Maurice Laxcroix compared to the others?

And btw, if you have any other tips/suggestions in this budget, please feel free to share them (I would appreciate it).

Thanks.

P.S. When I look for watches I check either chrono24 or gemnation/joma. Are there other places where you can get them for cheaper?

I would get a Speedmaster, but the classic Lemania powered Speedmaster Professional.

Maurice Laxcroix has ETA movements and has similar build quality as many swiss brands. The price difference is largely resulted from marketing, brand recognition and customer experience etc.

Though conventional wisdom would suggest Omega, you should choose the one that brings you most pride and joy. I think the Masterpiece Worldtimer is worthy of serious considerations.

A preowned 3750.50 is an awesome entry into the "luxury" watch market. I cannot think of any other watch that has as much respect and history at this price point than the Speedy.

I did exactly the same thing about a year ago (about the same budget). Ended up with a Planet Ocean 2500 that I absolutely love, but it really just came down to which one I was able to find first. Had a Speedy purchase fall through that made way for the PO

Speedmaster Pro. That Maurice Laxcroix Masterpiece is not bad at all and it would be my close second choice.

This is your first watch, make it something special.

As others have said, you can get a nicely used 3570.50 moon watch for $2500. Otherwise, I'd go colt based on your list.

I just can't bring myself to wearing a watch named Maurice.
Some people might think I'm a space cowboy.

Allright everybody. A little update:

Went to Omega, Breitling and Rolex stores today and tried out some watches.
I realized that I didn't like the Speedmaster at all, the Breitling Colt was OK, but the
Rolex Submariner and/or Explorer II were great.

The one I really like is the Rolex Daytona (White dial).

So, I went ahead and bought the Maurice Lacroix. Next year when I have more money, I will buy myself a Rolex.

Go hard or go home.

Thanks for the suggestions!

ML Masterpieces are very nice watches and a pretty fair bargain on the pre- owned market. Any Masterpiece watch that has an ETA movement has had the movement completely reworked and/or repurposed. I've got a top grade ETA Unitas 6498 movement in a Wilson pilot watch, and it doesn't come close to the finish on the two ML Unitas movements.

I don't know much about the ML worldtimer, but it will be the dressiest of the watches you've got pictured. I've had the Speedy Pro, and it's much more "industrial" looking than the ML, or even a ss Sub.

I'll cut the chase - given those options the Omega would be the right choice.

Eventually most here on TRF would flip the others and get a Speedmaster.

if it has to be between those 3, i would opt for the colt, as it has a following among breitling fans. however, i would agree with many posts above and look for a used moonwatch. forever a classic.

Out of those, you made the right decision! Show off some pics. Beautiful watch from a very interesting manufacture
