Incoming '84 16800

Hi,

I have this little fellow incoming. Normally I'm not much for sapphire, but in this case I made an exception

It's a tropical dial. Certain dials get this way because of the chemical composition of the dial material combined with different environmental effects.

Google it, it's highly desirable :-)

Lol! I thought it was water damage

Pulled from the wreckage at Chernobyl? Awesome piece however it happened. Have not seen another 16800 anything like it. Stunner.

There was one sold by Hillstreet watches couple months ago, i think brown leather is a good combo for the brown dials

Looks killer! I'm in a bracelet kind of mood these days, but I'll try the look ☺

I really like the look but does this really fall into the tropical category? Hard to believe this was normal degradation in a sapphire watch. What kind of environment was this watch in?

Who knows, I'm no chemist. I've seen water damage, like I know you have. It's quite a different result.

there's 'flooding' and moisture ingress - could just be the crown was left open for ages, and there's water in the air, of course. Who knows, but I like it anyway, although I suspect H2O was involved somehow in attaining that result.

Sure, that's certainly possible. Case and movement are top notch, so I'm doubting submersion.

I'm jealous, I want that thing!

Maybe I'll look for a beater with a dial like this, too, although I have a great 16600 with an awesome faded insert - I just love the weathered look; a Submariner that really looks like it's been bashing around at the bottom of the ocean for years.
