Traveling abroad with my Rolex
I am new to this forum and have an interesting question. I recently purchased a beautiful new SeaDweller. I love it. I travel frequently in the States but have need to be traveling in Europe next month on business. Should I wear my Rolex or something less? I do not want to spend extra time in customs if this may be cause for suspicion. Thanks to any responses in advance!

Unless you are carrying box and papers don't worry.

Welcome, I have no doubts you will be fine travelling with your SD on your wrist, now if you had it in a box with papers etc. and it looked like you were going to sell it, then it might attract some suspicion, but otherwise no problem.

I travel with everything but the box. I also wear the watch. My wife just went to the USA from Mexico and I ask her to wear the LV. That will not attract the attention of the custom officer. Since the watch is entering back to the USA, customs might ask you to see the documentation in order to see if he witch is a fake. Fakes can be taken from the custom officer and you might end paying exactly what an original cost because brand protection. By the way, I never realized a sub would look so beautiful on a woman.

Thanks for the input from each of you. I need to learn the Macro part of my "new" camera too (and disable the flash). Once I do, I'll take some better pictures.
BTW: this a GREAT forum! Glad I found it! |

Traveling in Europe
Hello:
This was my experience a few years ago when I traveled to Spain. I was cautioned by many, including the travel agent, about pick pockets and other forms of thievery (is this a real word). I was strongly encouraged to not keep most of my money in my wallet (a money belt was encouraged), and to keep all fancy jewelry at home. Including the Rolex. Now, I don't do a lot of traveling to Europe, so I took them at their word. So, how paranoid were these people? Was the advice wise or overly exaggerated? To be fair, I spent 10 wonderful days in Spain riding a rented motorcycle and never was in a situation where I felt unsafe. As a matter of fact, I made a habit of stopping people and cars to ask for directions. Riding in the remote roads of the Andalucia province is very conducive to getting lost. Dex |

Traveling with your watch
If you want to travel with your watches outside the US it a good idea to get a Certificate of Registration For Personal Effects Taken Abroad Form 4457. You can receive this certificate from Customs and Border Protection Officers before you depart. It provides documentation that you had the items with you before you departed the country.

I have traveled to different parts of the world before wearing my Rolex and in the future will do the same.
I have two Rolexes that both have the fourth hand so why leave them at home? Of course Ill bring one of them along and use them for what they were really designed for. They are definitely my companions when I travel.

I have travelled all over the world wearing Rolex and other luxury brands and have never had a customs officer even look at my watch. I do not believe that a US customs officer can take you watch without some glaring reason to think that you are breaking a law and they certainly are not qualified to determine if it is a fake and would not care anyway.

Interesting post
When I saw the topic, I thought the question might be different. That is in regards to safety and getting robbed! Has anyone not worn their Rolex on vacation due to threat of robbery and safety?
I ask this question, because my wife and I are going on a cruise in the Mediterranean in August. I am not concerned about wearing it on the ship, but in port can be an issue in my mind. Any thoughts? |

I went on a cruise in the Mediterranean last September - no problems at any of the following ports: Rome Monte Carlo Nice Livorno Barcelona (although watch your bag!) Malta Palermo Isle of Capri I left it in the cabin safe when we were in Tunisia - didn't know what to expect here. I think in general just try not to draw a lot of attention to yourself and if you're unsure there should be a safe in the cabin. |

I've traveled all over Europe, Asia, and Australia wearing different Rolexes, and entered the US at several locations (San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Boston and Los Angeles) with no problems. Travel, and enjoy your Rolex !

Why should this be an issue with customs? This past Feb I was wearing a GMT and my wife wearing a TT Datejust when going through customs in Dublin... I wondered if we needed receipts...no one cares... The lady that was sitting next to us had on a ring that looked like it cost more than both our watches, all my wife's rings and toss in a new Cadillac.... No one bothered her in customs either....I think a carry on bag with new 4 Daytonas might raise some eyebrows... I carry plenty of insurance on the watches, rings, etc... They can be replaced......
